Your OCD is probably just an asshole. I don’t think you’re racist. If your thoughts upset you, they’re intrusive and out of your control.

You might be racist and just be in denial. No one knows for sure. Try to accept the uncertaity that your worst fear might be true. You might be a racist and a terrible person. You also might not be. Accept the possibility, even though it feels terrible, doing this without doing compulsions is the only way to LONGTERM relief and treatment

Do you have any tips on how to accept the uncertainty? It’s hard for me to cope with because I see racism as being morally wrong because it hurts people and if there is any chance that I am hurting people than (s*icide TW) my brain makes me feel like I don’t deserve to be here aaa thank you though!

@Jordan91 You deserve to be here. We learn and grow from making mistakes but it seems to me that you are aware of yourself enough so that you don’t want to act in such ways to people. Try focusing on that?

@Jordan91 Its hard to accept but its the only way through. Ur ocd hates uncertainty thats why we need to focus on the possibility of our worst fears being true.

@Jordan91 You deserve to be here. Probably even more than most people because of the kind nature of your heart. But also the only way to reduce your ocd is to accept the possibility you may be a racist or say hurtful things. It might be true, but it also might not? Does that help?

Sure! I was reading up on stuff and it basically said all white people unconsically learn racism even if they consciously know it’s wrong and disagree with it so I’m just having trouble saying if I actually have intrusive thoughts or if it’s just unconscious racism but my thoughts do upset me so that would make them intrusive then but it’s all just overwhelming and confusing 😣😓

@Jordan91 Jordan this is a form of reasurance seeking. This will. Make ur ocd worse in the long run. Try and sit with the uncertainty that you might be racist because you actually might be. Anyone might be anything. But please don't ask this person for anything or for advice, it makes ur ocd worse

@Jordan91 If you obsess about it constantly, like if you’re always worrying about if you’re racist or not and it’s most likely becoming compulsive. I struggle with us as well. It’s been hard learning that as a white person, I hold internal biases that I haven’t confronted yet. It’s takes a while to really sink in and understand. For me it’s helpful knowing that I’m not alone...we ALL have these unconscious biases. Also I think based on the mere fact that you (we’re) obsessing over it, means that we aren’t actually horrible racists, ya know. This is a tricky time for people with ocd, but as long as we can recognize that it is just that, ocd...I think we’ll be ok. I hope that helps a little! ❤️
