So you did a testing compulsion and then didn’t like the results. That’s ocd for you! Stop doing these types of internet searches. Here’s the thing: gay people have a lot more in common with straight people than your ocd would like. They have conflicting feelings, confusion, struggle to find the right partner. None of this is inherently “gay.” It’s just part of the human experience. And every time you read one of these lists, you’re going to relate to at least some of the items on them. It’s not like we’re different species. We just like slightly different versions of things. Learn to sit with the uncertainty of this rather than trying to use compulsions. They haven’t gotten you anywhere yet, and they never will. An ocd specialist would also be a great idea, obviously! ERP, CBT, and mindfulness are the good standard for real recovery.

@Vlera ibraj Because lesbians don’t find any anxiety or hate towards being a lesbian. They welcome it and embrace it. We as HOCD sufferers continuously suffer and feel trapped because we aren’t gay or lesbian. It’s just the HOCD making us feel that way

@SOOCD Hey- Im into girls as a girl and currently I’m going through the worst internalized homophobia stage of my life- I’m not embracing it as all. This is not a trigger or designed to make you ruminate, however!

@JustRob Hey JustRob. I kinda saw your post and got triggered a little bit. I posted recently about how my HOCD is trying to trigger me by telling me that I’ve been masturbating to lesbian porn 2-3 times a day for the past 6 years in order to hide the fact I’m gay. I don’t want to be gay or bisexual. I don’t have any hate or malice towards the LGBTQ+. I just want to be straight because it’s right for me.

@SOOCD I’m sorry if I triggered you, and I hope you can use ERP to let the thought go :)) I completely understand you, no need to justify. I had SO-OCD because I was “worried” I was attracted to men- and now I’m having thoughts about holding hands and kissing- but I’m using ERP and mindfulness to let it go, and I hope you can do the same.

@JustRob I know I’m asking for the wrong thing here and I’m currently doing erp and acceptance of the thought atm, but do you think I’m gay or bisexual after reading my comment? I honestly hope mindfulness and erp can help fix things

@SOOCD I don’t want to give reassurance, I see you as a person with HOCD, and that is not meant to reassure, I just want you to know that everyone here struggles with the “what if I’m actually...” :)) ERP is a lifesaver, and apps like Smiling Mind and Woebot can help a heck ton!

@JustRob Also what do you think is the difference between HOCD and internalized homophobia? Because I’m kind of scared of that, I don’t hate anyone that’s a member of the lgbtq+

@SOOCD HOCD is a mental disorder and chemical imbalance, while internalized homophobia stems from self awareness?

@missbluesky I don’t wanna give reassurance, so I can’t go in detail. Sorry!
