We can’t help you engage in compulsions to prove or disprove your fears. That wouldn’t help you and we know it’s harmful.

I have to know. I feel like I’ve been lying to everyone on this app

@missbluesky No one could possibly answer the question anyway. And why would the opinions of randomn people on the internet be the deciding factor in your sexual orientation. I’m bisexual, but let’s imagine everyone on here commented they think I’m just gay after reading a story I posted...would that mean I’m gay? Or would it mean people just have a perception and my orientation is something independent of people’s opinions.

@NOCD Advocate - Carl Cornett but then that negates every piece of reassurance i’ve ever gotten

@missbluesky Reassurance is damaging to people with OCD.

@NOCD Advocate - Carl Cornett Carl it’s just been so long....I’ve struggled with this theme off and on for 7 years, since I was 12. Most people’s start in the mid teens or twenties, but mine was smack dab in the middle of puberty, when people are realizing their sexuality. i literally cannot wrap my head around how that is normal.

@missbluesky I had intrusive thoughts about killing myself or others at 17 or 18. That’s around the age many people commit violence. Because those thoughts occurred at an age associated with an increased likelihood of violence, does that mean I’m a sociopath?

If a stranger on the internet said "hey I think you're purple" does that mean you're purple? Probably not, but even if it did, it was just a lucky guess based on their own isolated opinions and experiences. You know you better than anyone else knows you, even if your brain wants you to believe you need others to confirm your feelings one one way or another. I know that's not the answer you want, but I've been there before and I promise seeking reassurance doesn't help long term!

@missbluesky I wrote that response before reading your post so I wouldn't respond with any language leaning one way or another

So I post every day basically on lesbian Reddit’s or just women’s forums and people telling me I sound like I like men has yet to convince me. No one can tell you and even if they tell you what you want to hear, it won’t help. My heart hurts for you, I know how hard this is

but what do you think??? do you think i’m bi or gay???

@missbluesky Like I’ve said, you remind me a lot of myself. I consider myself straight and want to be with men. No matter what you think you might be, who do you want to be with right now? Focus on that, not on what ocd says

@wellwellwell And this is not to be reassurance, as I struggle with HOCD too. My point is, with ocd, sometimes you just have to trust yourself even with the static in the background. If that trust is enough to get you to start erp; amazing!! If it’s not, then you need to find another way to motivate yourself
