Do you constantly try to test yourself and see if you’re gay? Do you see it as a seperate piece that you feel is inevitable or will happen although you have no attraction (only intrusive thoughts)? Do you enjoy the intrusive thoughts when you get them? These are all helpful questions to distinguish the two ❤️

I would say the one tricky thing there is enjoying the intrusive thoughts. It is reallly hard to tell sometimes. We get do delusional that we will be anxious and freaking out, but still convinced we like the thoughts at the same time.

@nGfloat True. I think the best indicator is the “forcing an identity one”. Do you label yourself something and feel like it’s a label that was GIVEN to you? That’s a really helpful distinguisher imo

Something I heard that makes sense especially for HOCD is this: Someone’s sexual orientation is like their eye color. They don’t really think too much of it. If any HOCD thoughts make you uncomfortable, I’d say it’s the OCD. If you constantly “force an identity” upon yourself because of your HOCD, it’s definitely just the illness. So think about the eye color thing; do you obsess over what color your eyes are or is it just a thing that’s a part of you? Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish but I hope this helped at least a little bit

That’s how I feel. I feel like I have to be gay. It makes me uncomfortable and distressed, but my head tells me that’s what I like and want. It’s such a struggle. I actually try to be gay sometimes and I’m so confused.

@Ihateocd83 I understand. The thoughts are exhausting, especially when you keep telling yourself that you don’t want them plaguing your mind. Trust me it will get easier.

@Ihateocd83 A common symptom is feeling like you might be gay one day so this makes sense. It’s a tricky disease, it really likes to confuse you.

@izzleswizzle Sometimes it feels like i already am. I keep imageing myself in situations and scenarios and i get constant groinals in my butt. I cant even lay on my side anymore or my front 😞

@Ihateocd83 I was there man. It gets better. You have to stop paying as much attention or caring as much about the sensations. I also was getting thoughts that I would have to try something and it felt like that’s what would make me happy even though I was actually quite depressed.
