Hope this helps.... when you say you miss the old you, understand this, you are the old you, you’re the better old you. You had intrusive thoughts back then, you just didn’t react to them the way you do now. It’s going to be ok and the more you put the work in to get better, the more you’ll see that you are the new improved old you😉

Tell you what, I had OCD for 10 years (since I was 12), then I suddenly found out it was GONE, not a trace left. I was an OCD-free person for about two years, but then it came back and hit me really hard (a few month ago). I didn't really appreciate not having an OCD, because I was still depressed most of the time... Next time it goes away, I will certainly be more grateful.

That was a cliff hanger for sure! So just one day it all disappeared? I wonder how that happened? What triggered you to relapse? I’m so sorry that you were depressed for that time. I don’t want to seem insensitive but I bet others would like to hear your experience too. If you don’t mind sharing

@NOCD Advocate - Danielle I have two variants of what might have made it go away. First is being in a relationship with a girl I loved very deeply and I promised her I would get over my compulsive behavior. However, it doesn't seem to be the answer for majority of the people with OCD, since it's not that easy. There was also another thing that I'm not proud of at all, but if you wanna know, I became a drug addict not long before I noticed that I didn't have obsessive thoughts anymore. Even if my addiction somehow turned the switch in my brain, it still resulted in depression, so I don't wish smth like that upon anyone. I was pretty much divorced from the reality when I did those substances, that's why I didn't even notice at first that my OCD was gone, it took me some time. After I stopped experimenting with drugs, my OCD didn't come back. It did return a few months after I broke up with my girlfriend (which was extremely painful) and then found a job, that was a great stress to me. Eh... sorry. Not a very inspiring story;) And oh, I forgot. I have a borderline personality disorder too and my doctor suggested it might have been the root of my OCD.

@alimart Wowed! That was a journey. Thanks for sharing with me. I know a lot of people who have or still experiment with drugs and alcohol to stop their anxiety or depression and all symptoms that accompany them. Some say it helps and others not so much. Well I’m glad you’re here. You can help others with your experience and gain some more support for yourself. We are all here for you! ❤️

@NOCD Advocate - Danielle A break up and a stressful job would probably affect anybody’s anxiety/depression

@jasonbozinakis I’ve been noticing that I want to isolate myself from friends because of OCD.

@jasonbozinakis Exactly. I’m scared that my friends don’t understand my OCD and could think my thoughts are true, but I also get major anxiety just being in social situations now and I used to not be that way
