OCD causes you to be hyper-aware of anything that could trigger your obsession, so yes it is an OCD thing. Understanding this will hopefully move you towards ERP, which is gonna be ROUGH. It’s gonna make you approach things that you do NOT want to even think about, but through the process and the pain, you will come out on the other side. I strongly advise getting hold of an OCD therapist. If you feel too embarrassed to admit what you’re experiencing to your parents, which is completely fine stating that you have a menial thing like ‘health OCD’ could be a hurdle that helps you get to recovery. I know that others may say that admitting what you’re experiencing is not a bad thing, but I really think otherwise... I think it’s a personal matter that you should address on your own!

@a12345 I mean, I can’t necessarily say but if you were experiencing OCD in your childhood then yes, even if you weren’t it could have been an aspect of normal child development! But, this is a reassurance seeking compulsion and trust me, you’re never going to get the answer through taking memories. (I just re read my message and I think it came across wrong - you definitely have to discuss exactly what you’re experiencing with your therapist, I was saying that you don’t have to necessarily disclose that to your family - it isn’t an aspect of recovery and it can be way too embarrassing!

@Ellie Thank you! This is actually exactly what I am doing:) I told my parents that I have moral scrupulosity/health OCD but i have not disclosed harm/sexually intrusive thoughts but they have both told me that they understand harm/sexually intrusive thoughts after reading articles abt them, so I don’t even rlly feel like it’s necessary to admit to it since they clearly understand what it is. I’m working with an ERP therapist and have been for a few weeks and have told her about all of my obsessions but I haven’t disclosed the groinal response for fear that it’s the ONE thing I’m dealing with that isn’t OCD and is actually something else (PGAD, hyper-sexuality). Lol my health OCD probs playing a role in this. Thank you tho- you have encouraged me to talk to my therapist about it!

@anon__ The groinal response IS OCD!!! Please don’t feel like this is the one thing that proves you’ve not got OCD. In fact, I’m gonna link a video for you! https://youtu.be/DecETbct3g4
