Mistypop182 Harm ocd is horrible,I’ve had pure ocd since 13 yr old , I’m now 48 with 2 beautiful daughters and a loving wife . Harm ocd has recently crept in to my life , same kind of thing I’ll be in the kitchen prepping dinner and my oldest will help , like she does , but then the thought creeps in ‘ what if the knife I’m using to cut vegs slipped and I stabbed my baby . It’s fuckin terrible I’ve just told my wife she always knew I had ocd but not that severe . I’ve immediately booked myself to see therapist as I can take those thoughts anymore . Pls pls read Sally Winston’s book , overcoming intrusive and obsessive thoughts , it specifically deals with H OCD . You’re not alone darling these thoughts are not u , you’re a good mother.

Thank you so much!!! I feel so connected with someone now! It’s nice to know you’re not alone - but it’s scary. Same thing - all the time. I just want to enjoy life without obsessing over the thoughts ya know? I see a psych next month - it feels so long away - I’m glad I have this app.

Well I do a lot of counting compulsions to ease my anxiety but that’s the wrong way to go about it . Seeing the therapist soon so they’ll be able to give me the tools to handle this mental illness . But breathe. Count back 10-1 and inhale slowly and exhale and concentrate on your breathing. I’ve started going to a local Buddhist center here in Sarasota to meditate weekly and it helps

When u read Winston’s book they have a good solid CBT process to work with . Let me say this , we are very anxiety prone and with that comes a very sticky mind. When an intrusive thought comes in that frightens/ repulses us We will try to push that out of my mind but unfortunately that’s counterintuitive that’s what makes the thought stick around. So in short I know this is hard to accept right now but u have to let the thoughts flow , notice it and say ok weird but it’s only a thought . It sounds much easier than actually doing it cause who in their right mind what’s to be comfortable with those thoughts but the more we accept the less they stick around .

I hate going on about my suffering but it’s to let u know you’re not alone , these thoughts are a indication that u are very sensitive and in no way would u harm your children.

What do you do to cope with it? I just try to tell myself they are only thoughts and distract myself. I bookmarked the book you mentioned also.
