I think your psychologist shouldn’t have said that. It’s true that you might be stuck with OCD all your life however things can get better and you can improve by alot. When OCD improve, even if you do get horrible intrusive thoughts, they won’t even bother you or not as much. Keep working and applying ERP! Don’t give up!

Thank you. I don't think he meant it in a malicious way. I think he was just trying to say " don't have unrealistic expectations" but what I heard was " This is how it's gonna be forever, so don't bother".

@Connor I think you definitely have to adjust your expectations. He was a bit too blunt

hi :) i’m 18 and I’ve had this fear pop up sometimes. I’ve been struggling with pure OCD since I was around 15. The only thing i can tell you is that there’s cases where people have fully recovered from OCD, and there’s also people who have OCD for the rest of their lives. Sometimes people will take 3 months of recovery or 17 years. Some people are in recovery for the rest of their lives. it really depends on the person. I know this isn’t the answer you were looking for, but I have a feeling that if I give you reassurance, it won’t really help you. Whether you become free from OCD in a month of have it for the rest of your life, please always know that you are worthy of kindness from everyone, including yourself. You will always be a beautiful soul, and you will always deserve love. This is a constant, even when your OCD makes you doubt even this. The only advice I can give you is to always chose love, and not fear. Do what makes your heart and soul feel right (as long as no one gets hurt lol), and not what OCD is trying to convince you to do. When OCD tells you not to do something, do it anyways. OCD does not run your life. You run your life. You always will. Best of luck💖

I wouldn’t say you WILL recover, I would say you CAN recover. WILL is too certain.

Your psychologist should have said that however yes you might have intrusives all your life but theough recovery they wont matter that much anymore

when you properly practice recovery with your ocd, the thoughts will become less intrusive, even to a point where you won’t notice them come in. you’re still really young and have lots of time to recover. what your counsellor said basically isn’t really the whole truth.

I believe that things can get a lot better, but it is a chronic condition. Not trying to be a pessimist, but I do think we are unfortunately going to be dealing with some level of ocd for life. To what extent is the question. Also healing isn’t linear. So it may also come and go in different levels of severity.
