I don’t like quora either. There’s a lot of pseudo-intellectuals you know? People that make up their own credentials and give very harmful or outdated information. It’s definitely not very reliable.

Agreed. So is Reddit. Super biased, snarky people. It’s awful for OCD in my experience. Also it’s literally uneducated people giving their opinions for no reason so don’t even give it a second thought.

yea i try to stay away from reddit too people act like they know what they’re talking about without knowing a thing 😐

There are many highly educated and knowledgeable people on Quora.

@christinejg94 yeah maybe, but i posted this bc i saw a lot of uneducated people on there talking about things they dont understand and even with the educated people i still think its not a helpful site for people with ocd.

@christinejg94 Not all of them are uneducated, but I think the majority of people on there comment on things they don’t know about. Which can make my themes and OCD in general worse.

I have had so many horrible panic attack ocd moments from looking at Reddit!

I actually love Quora. Very knowledgeable people there, in my opinion. I don’t google as a compulsion anymore though, it was triggering when I did. Reddit is worse for me. But I really don’t use either for compulsions.

What would you Google and what helped you stop? That is my worst compulsion

@Messa Mostly stuff about hell. What religion is right, what you have to do, how you can know for sure you will go to heaven, stuff like that. That was the main one. Sometimes I would Google relationship stuff to make sure I really loved my husband. I will say it stopped mostly after ERP.

@Messa Recently I googled stuff about what is cheating in school vs. not cheating, but the thing is, you will always, ALWAYS find someone with the answer you fear. So it’s really just a waste of time! You go in wanting reassurance and you leave feeling even worse than before.

@christinejg94 Yes!! This happens all the time... I am bad about googling schizophrenia... so I always find so much stuff on it... now I compare myself and have all these thoughts that it’s happening to me..

@Messa Mhmm. Thank goodness I never googled pedophilia, I probably would have had a heart attack. 😅

@Messa Because of the cognitive distortions going on in your mind, it doesn’t if 100 people tell you you don’t have schizophrenia, the one person who says you may, or who’s comment lines up with your fear is going to be the one you latch on to. I could read multiple things about spirituality, about people going to heaven but the one comment saying you can only go by doing XYZ will be the one that gets me every single time.

These platforms are only useful when you’re not using them as a compulsion. If you’re looking for reassurance of any kind, especially related to your obsessions, it’s a terrible place to turn. And you shouldn’t. You’ll either get false reassurance than doesn’t last and feeds your ocd, or you’ll get someone uneducated in ocd giving you advice that doesn’t apply to you and could potentially be harmful or just unhelpful for dealing with the real issue (which is ocd, not the content of your obsessions.)

Yeah its not good. Heck one of things i saw on there was really disturbing and gross. Didnt have much to do with my theme but wow that was unpleasant.

It ISSSSS it really is. I used to be able to brush off some stuff on there as being stupid but now that I have ocd I literally can’t anymore. Like it can tell me that I’m not human and I’d be like damn what if I’m not 🤔
