You're just gonna keep feeling constant distress and keep wanting to alleviate that with compulsions if you keep focusing on the "end goal". Like the other commenter said, ocd is chronic. It's not an ear infection, it's not the flu. You can't take a generalized medication or one size fits all treatment and get a certain "result". Just like someone with depression must accept that they may feel low, numb, and depressed again in the future, even if they're doing everything right, OCD sufferers similarly have to accept that just as you feel discomfort now, you will continue to feel discomfort and fear/distress again in the future, as thoughts will inevitably appear again, and likely in new ways than before. Also, on that note, to expect we wont experience anxiety again in the future is to forget that we are human and anxiety and fear are some of the most primal of sensations built into us from evolution. Think of it like a friend trying to keep you safe, and start reacting by telling it "thanks, I see you, but I'm good". My advice is to focus less on your idealized "end goal", and accept that recovery is an ongoing process. I like to think of ocd recovery as becoming a more mindful person, developing a new perspective on discomfort and anxiety, and building the tools to live life in such a way that we accept we will feel or think uncomfortable things, and that we have the wherewithal and choice as humans to act on our values despite that. Ease out of the rumination and instead work on focusing on being mindful in the present, exposing yourself to whatever you feel and building up a tolerance to that so you can go on with your everyday life.

Yeah, I really appreciate what you've said. I just saw a video about this, and it feels like the universe is telling me something. I think I might have been too focused on the end goal, thank you for saying this. I've kind of been restless lately because all I do the whole day is to think, but I think I'm slowly learning how to deal with this. Your insight on the matter made me understand OCD more. Good luck on your recovery ♡

@h3lpm3rcip Good luck on yours as well! You're not alone. I've been working at it for over a year and still hit lows and scary moments but its about how we react and grow from those dips that helps us recover!
