I’m on Zoloft 50mg and it’s helped me a lot. It’s not recommended you stop cold turkey, and should instead be weaned off by a doctor. Maybe try a different medication.

ssri's didn't help me because my problem isn't serotonin re-uptake. I take Lamictal + Buspar and life has become much more manageable!

How did you figure out the problem wasn't serotonin?

@Kls2121 It was trial and error, I've been taking meds since I was a teenager. Ssris would only lift depressive symptoms for about 6 months max (they would not alleviate anxiety, just depression) Anxiety meds alleviate anxious/intrusive thoughts while mood disorder meds like lamictal prevent being triggered in the first place

It really does depend on your reaction or your bodies reaction to medication, but for me I had to go on different SSRIs and I did find one that helped but the side effects outweighed the positives, although I react very sensitively to medication. I think overall they are helpful but you just have to be careful about the dosage and picking the right one for you.

What were your side effects of you don't mind me asking?

@Kls2121 I don't want to freak you out but I had hallucinations, glassy eyes, flattening affect (like emotions) and weight gain. This was on Zoloft but it totally depends on your bodies reaction to different medication, it didn't work for me it doesn't mean that you would get the same side effects, just keep that in mind.

@cinnamongirl22 Ohh wow I didn't even know hallucinations were a side effect. That is kind of scary. I know everyone is different. I have kids so it makes it more scary if I'm one of the people that get those side effects.

@cinnamongirl22 What did your doctor say about that? Did you go back to normal after you stopped it?

@Kls2121 well it was the psychiatrist and counselor who urged me to increase dosage that's when the problem happened I've been off of them for three years

@cinnamongirl22 It took like six months to fully return back to my normal self and even then I was pretty affected negatively by that experience

I read in my OCD workbook that 50 percent of people with OCD struggle with moderate to severe depression. A SSRI could help with depression which in return could make OCD more manageable.
