@Hocd_sufferer I’m suffering a pretty severe relapse at the moment, but I’ve had very long spans of remission.

@Hocd_sufferer You have to stop focusing on fixing the symptoms and instead focus on fixing the obsession. You need to be working with an OCD specialist to walk you through recovery. I struggle with those things too, but they seem to go away when I am in remission, so right now I am just focusing on eliminating the obsession with ERP and working with my therapist.

@Hocd_sufferer In that case, you can use trusted online resources. Videos. Articles. Etc. I think you need to maybe get a better understanding of what OCD therapy is supposed to accomplish. Try watching some videos by Nathan Peterson. He makes the recovery mindset a little easier to understand. You are not helpless, you just have a more difficult situation.

@Hocd_sufferer I’m not sure how to follow a person, but I am on this app a lot for help/to help so don’t worry. There are lots of other people here too with good resources. Like is said, check out Nathan Peterson on YouTube and watch some of his videos to help you understand what is going on! I am definitely not certified to be anyone’s therapist but if I can help you by pointing you in the right direction, then this is it!

@Hocd_sufferer I barely have it anymore. I don’t even care about it. I have instructor thoughts and fears but I don’t do anything about them. They no longer rule my life, and I very much like the opposite sex. I’m not gay at all. It’s just my stupid brain reacting to anything of a sexual nature. I’m totally over my HOCD now. 😊

@Anonymous No, but I would look at a random picture of a someone of the same sex to see if I would get groinal responses just by seeing it. I would ruminate all the time, confess to my parents, and ask for reassurance constantly from my parents. But all of these are compulsions. They made me worse, not better. I got almost completely better just by sitting with the distress and accepting uncertainty and that I would NEVER figure out if I’m gay or not. And guess what? The less I try to figure it out, the less it bothers me. And I am totally not gay. I very much like the opposite sex. OCD is just so stupid, lol. :)

@Madison I’m getting to that point rn. It’s pretty mild atm. But I still need to stop ruminating and just accept it like you said. I’ve actually gotten better once before and it was amazing and everything was so clear. I’m determined to get back to that.

@stop. Yes!!! You can do it!!! Just let the distress and uncertainty be there. If you do nothing about it, just let it go, the fear passes all on its own! It’s brain science!

@Hocd_sufferer I still have it. When I was 16, it went away for a little bit, but it came back when I was 18.
