I came across a video on NOCD’s YouTube channel that talks about this. This obsession is called “decision-making paralysis”. It happens to me online as well.

@Anonymous Thank you so much, I will give that watch, its something I just put down to being indecisive but it legit causes me anxiety and can take control my life if I'm not careful

@Tanaya It takes me 30 minutes to make a decision on toothpaste and I’m still not happy when I get home. It’s ridiculous and I am working with my therapist on this.

@Anonymous Thankfully I'm okay on those things however I am very particular about textures and materials so it's usually with things I wear or that will touch me because with OCD anxiety is something that just comes along with it those things can make my anxiety worse if the fabric is irritating my skin. I almost wish we didnt have as much choice as we do sometimes it feels like the world is so busy and it gets overwhelming

Hi Tanaya, I never thought it was an OCD thing but I do this literally EVERY TIME I have to shop, and I thought it was just me! Can’t say for sure but now that you mention it, it makes sense that it would be connected to OCD/perfectionism

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this, it makes me dread buying new clothes so I tend to avoid it but it definitely seems to be a perfection OCD type thing, the only reason I think that is because everything has to be right, things like the seams, buttons or the hardware not matching other areas of the clothing. It seems quite a superficial thing to obsesse over but its equally as distressing as some of my higher complusions

Omg this is me!! My NOCD therapist is making me go shopping as an ERP practice exposure because I have gotten to the point where I can’t even walk into a store anymore. I’m crying from fear the entire time I have to do this exposure and everyone looks at me funny. Then I get home with my purchase and my “just right” OCD kicks in. It’s so hard.

That's awful, I believe in you tho, the more you do it the easier it will get! Sometimes I find stores so overly situmatling tho, with the bright lights, music and people it all adds to my anxiety when shopping but even online, I always feel like theres too much to choose from so I get overwhelmed and have to come back later. I just hate that feeling that I've wasted my money on things that I didnt think enough about before buying but I know if I allowed myself to think any longer I'd never buy any clothes or things in general for that matter

No you are not alone. I can totally relate because It’s stressful I love to get new clothes but it’s like a whole process.

What helped me is bring someone along or let someone see what you are trying to get to help make the decision process easier

Same I do actually enjoy styling new clothes but OCD makes the process stressful. That's a good idea actually. I'm trying to buy less but things that I can see myself wearing and being comfortable in because that's the main reason for my anxiety I always wonder if I will be comfortable in the clothes I buy if that makes sense but I still want to be stylish lol

@Overcomer Yes you've got it spot on! I like trends on other people but for myself I get bored of it way too easily or too many loud colors can cause me some anxiety

@Tanaya Same here I tend to like neutral more then a spot of color which brings out my skin. I love your style lol
