I think I see what you mean now but it may be good to be careful how you phrase things like this because nothing can "turn" someone into a different sexuality. I think what you mean, if I'm not mistaken, is that the increased exposure to different sexualities in widespread media has caused it to be more common that people are talking openly about sexuality in a way that it wasnt in the past, which means more frequent triggers to people who have sexual orientation ocd? Just saying, it may be good to be careful with wording, as nothing can "turn" or "make" someone a certain sexuality.

I’m not quite sure about that I think the bisexual thing is sort of a trend I know people that would never ever date someone of the same gender but say that they are bisexual for attention

@ocdman You look at the numbers the percentage of people who are gay has remained constant throughout the years it’s the bisexual percentage that is increasing I’d say it’s 50 percent trend and 50 percent real

@ocdman I definitely agree with you

Yes! Wording is important when talking about sexual orientation OCD just because we have LGBTQ members here and we don’t want to offend them. Anyway I’m glad that people are feeling more comfortable talking about their sexuality and being open. Is it triggering sometimes? Yes. But it’s a good exposure and overall I’m happy for them. About the tik tok bisexual trend, that actually makes me upset because I know straight people who use bisexual as a label just because they want to seem cool. Biphobia is real. Bi visibility and erasure is a thing. People who are actually bi go through intense struggles and it’s not fair that straight people “choose” to be bi for the trend.

@ocdman Or it’s just access to information and resources that’s increasing, allowing bisexual people to openly be able to discover and explore their sexualities more easily. I get where you’re coming from about ocd triggers but I do think it’s unfair to pin our triggers on the lgbt community. It’s important that lgbt visibility is increasing today and that we’re careful not to be biphobic

@backtogiality This too! It’s definitely hard with the triggers and avoidance because I always feel bad for it, but we can’t let our OCD impact how we view and treat LGBTQ. Despite my triggers, I will always support them and try not to pin my OCD feelings on them. I’m assuming that’s what you meant anyway.

@stop. It’s also important to remember that you obviously can’t choose what triggers you. I mean if we could we’d just stop being triggered all together lol. Anyway you can’t choose your triggers, but you can choose your actions and attitudes. It’s okay to be triggered, but you can’t let that impact actions and attitudes towards LGBTQ

@stop. Yes I almost feel bad about having sexual orientation OCD because it’s not our fault we can’t help our triggers. Especially because I am a supporter of the LGBTQ community. So it’s hard when if I’m talking to someone who isn’t straight I feel uncomfortable because my sexual orientation kicks in and makes me overthink (as it does ) like “oh what if she’s flirting with you because she’s gay I bet you like it” those types of thoughts. But it’s important for us to not have a negative attitude towards the LGBTQ community which we don’t:) . It’s just hard to say what I feel without feeling like I’m offending the LGBTQ community . I hope you get what im saying !

@Danielle I completely understand! I feel the same way. I’ve had this theme for 5 years and I’ve definitely had to learn over time how to better word myself when talking about my OCD because if you’re not careful it can be offensive. It’s just hard to describe what you feel sometimes and why certain things trigger you.

@stop. Right !! And I’m a cautious person when I say things because I’m like oh no I really don’t want to offend then . But yes having it for two years has been a challenge, you must be very strong for having it for 5 years . I hope your doing okay❤️

@stop. Exactly what I meant! Both lgbtq identities and people with any theme of ocd are valid so it’s important to empathise with both

The media is definitely a HUGE issue for mental health and makes people question themselves. I’m a supporter of the lgtbq community, but seeing all these famous actresses and actors come out as bi sexual made me think “oh what if this is me?”

@ocdman I know what you mean. Before the media blew up about people bi sexual I never questioned myself . But deep down I know who I am. Its just hard because of social media now a days !

@Danielle I agree it’s just hard because all of the gays people now are very open and have to post about it all the time I have nothing against them but it’s just starting to get old how I can’t even open my phone without seeing something gay or watch a Netflix show without something gay right off the bat I know it’s ignorant to say people just turn but it feels like we could if gay people could change I feel like most of them would have done it a long time ago

@ocdman Yes! It definitely is triggering to me seeing it everywhere since that’s all what society seems to be about. Everyone is talking about it. And yes same nothing against them but I can get old after while especially to someone who suffers sexual orientation ocd !
