Im watching it now and you know the characters lester and jeff? Well how they treat women has been making me feel super uncomfortable and how the show makes light of sexual assualt and sexual invasive things on the show makes me not want to watch the show even though it is a good distraction from life. And i love shows made a bit earlier.. idk if my ocd is pushing this or its strong morals but would love some advice. Sorry if you weren’t expecting that from this post 😅 if you dont have anything to say on it thats fine too.

Well, so the point of Jeff and Lester I think is that they are creepy. I didn’t find that the show didn’t really glorify their bad behavior, it was more of an “ew” factor. Played for laughs but it’s clear that they’re losers who have no idea how to be in women’s’ good graces. I’ve definitely had it before where something I watch makes me disproportionately uncomfortable though. It happens! For example, when Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King came out in theaters, it actually sent me on a month long obsessive episode because of the scene at the beginning where Sméagol kills his Brother to get the ring. It’s not even graphic, it’s just a little tense but it got my mind thinking “oh man what if I killed someone like that?” And it just snowballed and got out of proportion from there. Definitely you don’t have to watch anything if it’s making you uncomfortable, but on the other hand, it’s possible that you have found a good Exposure method for your own personal ERP process!

Also wanted to add that if the uncomfortableness is causing you to ruminate or do any kind of compulsion, it’s probably fueled by OCD. Typically if people just aren’t comfortable with a show’s content they just turn it off/leave the theater and don’t think much more of it.

Thank you for this respone. I honestly really am scared that me thinking things are my morals and having a high morality will cause me to not be able to enjoy life and be insufferable to others. I was watching another show and kept thinking about Chuck and the gang but was like nah i cant because of the sexual jokes idk. Sometimes i feel guilty of saying that ill make something into an exposure because I feel like it’ll just be me making an excuse to watch something i know goes aganist my morals. Ocd can be ao confusing sometimes. I’ve started watching it again after your messages though. Taking the risk cause who knows it may help my ocd so i should try. Thanks so much for this. And out of curiosity whos your fav character?

@Coul.C I can relate to that a lot. I’m a fairly religious person and have had a lot of scrupulosity/religion based OCD. I have had similar experiences where I’m struggling because I really like something, but I feel like one little part of it makes it bad or against my values so I shouldn’t watch it because it will poison my mind or something, and then I feel like I’m justifying watching something bad. It’s pretty rough but hang in there. And no problem going slow and steady with your exposures. You got this! Take care.

@cheyras Oh and favorite character? Probably Morgan Grimes. He reminded me a lot of one of my friends.

Is this just me or when you come across Christian shorts on tik tok or YouTube do you feel obligated to watch them. I feel like if I don't watch them then I am sinning. But most of these videos are just repeating the same thing. Idk if this is just me but I just feel like I have to watch them because it's would be worse to not watch them than to break a commandment.

I have harm ocd and I’m rewatching the sopranos obviously there’s a lot of violence on the show. Would this be exposures for me?? I don’t feel super triggered or anxiety watching it which i think is a plus for me. I’ve been in therapy since march and think I made a lot of progress because i haven’t watched anything like this since my relapse.
