I have contamination ocd and was stuck on hand washing in the past. The top layer on both of my arms and hands actually fell off. I probably washed my hands over 100 times a day and now I only wash them a few times a day. One exercise that helped is getting her to write down ervery time she washes her hands, the reason, and her anxiety level on a scale of 1-10. Once you see a trend maybe see if she can stop washing when something causes her an anxiety level of 1 and then eventually work her way up to things that give her an anxiety level of 10

My contamination OCD got so much worse since the pandemic began, so I totally understand what your wife is going through. My advice is this: 1. Learn everything to can about the OCD cycle and learn about how ERP therapy works. 2. Help your wife find a therapist to help with the ERP process OR have her use the tools on this app to practice ERP on her own. 3. Do not offer reassurance if your wife asks you, "Is this clean? Are you sure that's not contaminated?," etc. She/you may feel that reassurance is helpful, but in the long run it makes OCD worse. 4. Ask questions here - it's a great community that's happy to help. Sending good thoughts your way. You are not alone in this.

Im having a OCD specifically contamination OCD flare up all month and I don’t want to feel this way going into March, I’ve thrown out clothes, towels, stayed up for hours doing compulsions, washed my hands till they crack and bleed, I have washing pilling up cause I’m so overwhelmed by all the extra things I’ve added cause I thought it was contaminated. It’s completely draining me to the point where I’ve become sleep deprived and are avoiding part of my home because they are deemed contaminated to me…I only moved in a few months ago, I had a roach problem and using baits and insecticides really messed with my ocd too. anyone have any tips or tricks to make this easier? I wasn’t doing this bad in January :( thankyou in advance :)

Hello i got this app hoping to maybe find some support for my partner i thought about reddit but reddit has become a hateful place and i figured this is a safe place. i love my partner more than anything and he’s been struggling with OCD his whole life he has a hard time talking about it with anyone because it’s too painful he’s stated that it’s gotten worse as he’s gotten older His biggest issue right now is overwhelming thoughts of his actions having tragic outcomes and being unable to stop these obsessive thoughts (such as needing to check out door handle 5 times to make sure it’s locked but still panicking that it’s unlocked) he’s not open to one on one therapy or meds although he loves learning and watching informative videos i fear he’s afraid to confront his OCD or just afraid nothing will help i really wanna help him live a stress free and happy life he deserves it would anyone possibly have any ways to naturally help with OCD or recommend any great individuals that could share techniques on managing OCD or helping your partner with OCD? i would very much appreciate it!
