I am going through a similar situation. I am obsessing about my ex girlfriend. My compulsion is rumination and the thing I ruminate about the most is my last relationship. In my recovery (and maybe yours) is reducing the rumination about the heartbreak. Rumination, analytical thinking is controllable. Therefore, I try as much as possible to disregard when thoughts about my ex come up. They can be there, but I don’t allow myself to engage with them. I think this approach can really help you. Don’t give up. You can for sure overcome that 💪🏻
