Hi Chz, Wow, I totally feel you on this and the one thing that has helped me in so many ways is to face your fear head on. Im currently watching my brothers apartment in DTLA and im literally alone besides my brothers dog. My OCD tells me “well, no time is a better time than now to take your own life.” He lives on the top floor and it was super hard, but I looked out the window and stared at the floor below. I started getting anxious and than I got a feeling of not anxious. I started talking to my OCD and telling my OCD “man, that would be really great if you jumped and hit your head and people would have to come and pick up your mess and your family wouldn’t even find out for another like 2-3 hours that you did this.” I even tried to like almost lift a leg over the window and for the life of me I couldn’t. I literally couldn’t. The moment I tried lifting my leg all these emotions just begin to pour in. This is what ERP is, it is facing those fears head on and re training your brain to stop sending false signals. It was terrifying, but look I’m here typing to you. This was a big move for me in conquering my OCD, my OCD mind can think what it wants but I’m the boss. DISCLAIMER!!! ***I don’t recommend this unless you have been to therapy or have been diagnosed with OCD. My therapist in the past told me to try this and I did it with HER first in a “safe space”. Tonight I did it alone because I knew my OCD was just trying to play with me. DO NOT TRY this alone unless you have been to therapy. I can’t stress this enough!
