Yep! SSRIs do this. Here's a link with some good info about what to expect, how they work, etc. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/depression/in-depth/ssris/art-20044825

@Dre83 Heard that. I think zolofts grace period is a week? I would titrate up if you can. I think you said you're allowed to take half? I'd do that for a week and work up to your first dose. If I truly remember correctly I think it takes about a week to get acclimated to the seratonin released by that one whereas prozac can take 3 - 4. Again I was ten days in and was like nope. Intrusive thoughts were awful. So incredibly bad I couldn't focus on work. I sweated so bad my phone didn't recognize my fingerprint (weird right?) And I trembled, extremely restless but man my dreams were cool. Ha. That was the only good thing about it for me. Again - that's ME - maybe Zoloft will level out for you after a week and you'll feel better? I also wasn't taking it for depression. I was taking it to ease my intrusive thoughts and anxiety, so maybe that's why it affected me like that? Either way, at least give it 7 days. Talk to your wife and doctor openly, journal your progress on it bc you won't remember the good while you're in it. We're so hyper focused on bad. That way at the end of the week you can really look and see okay - this is how I was feeling these days etc. Might help direct your decision better. Even if it's just a paragraph for that day. :)

@kmecroz85 Yeah I’m lying here thinking I don’t like this. It’s almost 4 am. This was for ocd as well as I would love for these thoughts to disappear forever. I’m so focused on the bad things I’ve read that people have done on these drugs that’s what’s scares me wheather it was to themselves or someone else. I don’t get how a medication can make you do something you don’t want to do. My psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner says it can’t and that they had something she going on that’s not being said. I’m I sweating too gosh.

@kmecroz85 So are you off medication all together now and just doing erp? I also wonder as a christian if it was okay to take these meds not sure why I let myself think that but I did. I’m trying to live to be the best version of myself for His glory ya know.

@Dre83 Hey!! Sorry for the delay in response. So yes, off medication and only doing ERP. I feel so much better, but I also wasn't having depressive symptoms though. Also, don't feel weird for your question, I asked myself the same thing. The bible mentions numerous times of people taking things for ailments. God created these tools to help us but we have to remember not to put our hope in those tools (ie: meds, therapy etc) bc our hope lies in him. The tools just help us get better, but the ultimate healing comes from Him. Does that make sense? Could be why you're struggling with the meds too, bc you're putting your hope into making it stop. Also, I agree with your practitioner, those people have severe issues - like morality issues. Literally, a medication cannot make you do something you don't want to. I guess as with OCD you can't say never right? Lol, but I'm pretty sure you have the same chance as that happening as an alien abducting you, and on your way to Mars the craft crashes and you end up chilling with Snoop Dogg on a yaght in the ocean. Basically - not going to happen but there's always that .0000000000000000000001% chance. Haha.

@kmecroz85 It’s ok I know people Have busy lives. Yeah I know our ultimate hope in healing is from the Lord and all the things we have around us are tools he allows us to have to us help us get better. Yeah I want the thoughts to stop. I also all of a sudden am afraid of going over tall bridges in our area that I’ve been over thousands of times before ocd so I hope the meds help with the anxiety they cause me. I’m trying to see God in all this pain I have. I hope to have clarity and glorify him in the process. Thanks for your response 😊

@Dre83 I've had those happen too. It comes and goes what will scare you. Just try to ignore the fear response your brain incorrectly gives out.

@kmecroz85 How did your intrusive thoughts change on Zoloft? I looked in the mirror this morning and my brain told me I’m evil I’ve had this in the past but it’s been awhile. I felt like I saw evil in my eyes. Also had it tell me someone that I was having a conversation with that he was evil. Hasn’t been quite a week. Just feeling a little weird today. I’ve been sleeping better but going to bed earlier which I don’t like. I don’t know gosh this is just all crazy.

@Dre83 So I've never taken Zoloft. After my 10 day bout with Prozac I made the decision to quit and honestly feel way better. When the thoughts come, disassociating myself from them have helped a ton. Labelling the feeling or thought as intrusive. I'm like, oh that's an intrusive feeling or intrusive thought. I'll call my OCD Bob. Like oh Bob, just trying to get me started today. The more I realize that the ocd actually isn't me, the more I'm able to truly handle it. It does get easier. Just know that those thoughts you just referenced are all part of OCD trying to throw a fit and get you to pay attention to it. So just know it will keep doing stupid random things for you to pay attention, just label every single thing that isn't who you are as intrusive. See if that helps?

@kmecroz85 Not sure why I assumed you took zoloft lol. Yeah prozac sucked for me too when I tried it a while ago. It gets frustrating when you have so many intrusive thoughts or feelings a day to label them every time. I’ve tried that in the past but wasn’t real persistent with it or I feel like it’s something I really want so why am I labeling them if that makes sense. They say the thoughts are irrational but they seem so real like how are they irrational. But I know I don’t want them and I would give up a lot not to have them that’s for sure!!!

@Dre83 I know what you mean. I also remind myself I'm ruminating. The most powerful thing I've ever read was that ruminating is something we are choosing to do, so that means we can choose to stop. Easier said than done, but for a long time I had this whole attitude of, I can't help it. But, I can. So I'm just like, hey I'm ruminating, not going to do that, then redirect my thoughts. If that makes sense?

Not sure why it split my sentence. So 1/2 every other day for 5 days..then 1/2 everyday for 5 days.. then full dose everyday.

Hey! I just started Prozac and I’m on day 4 or 5 and I’m feeling super anxious and having mini panic attacks, is this normal? I know my psychiatrist said anxiety will raise for the first two weeks but I just wanna know if this happened to anyone else. I’m also super tired Thanks 😊

For starters I was on this medicine before i remember the first few weeks were very scary and debilitating. I don’t remember why I stopped taking it , it was about 7 months ago. but I just recently started back because my ocd and anxiety has been off the chain. I keep having bad thoughts about the side affects and I’m terrified like “ what if I have a seizure” can anybody share an experience? Anyone on Zoloft here. Thanks !

Today marks my third day on 150 mg of Sertraline, and I've been noticing some symptoms or issues that could be related? I'm wondering if anyone else deals or has dealt with something similar? I've been having really vivid dreams and nightmares, and when I wake up from them, I'm DRENCHED in sweat. Like absolutely soaked. But besides that, I'm extremely anxious. Even the dreams I can't remember leave me feeling off, and then I spiral wondering what they were about. Then there's not being able to cry? I'm not incapable of feeling emotion, but the tears feel trapped, and I just get nauseous if anything. There's been a couple of times where I've been able to cry, but it's like on and off 😭 Oh, and the last thing is constantly feeling hot? Like my face will feel flushed, but the rest of my body is a normal temperature. It's weird🧍♀️
