Embracing the Imperfections Imperfectly
This is the first time I’m knitting a hat, the first time I’m changing a knitting pattern, and the first time I’ve done k1p1 ribbing. It’s only the second time I’ve done any knitted ribbing or used double pointed needles. Even though I’m a newbie, my other skills can give me advantages. Well, I didn’t know that this particular ribbing in this weight would show more flaws and be harder to correct than other stitches. While I am fixing what I can to make it nice, I’m also facing this unexpected exposure and generally living with how uneven it feels to me. (I’m also acknowledging that I may be more critical of it than others are.). I’m still having fun with it, and I’m still proud of it. I’m even proud of accepting its flaws. If it can help anyone else while accepting imperfection, my very wise grandfather used to say that something handmade needed to not be too perfect, lest it lack character. So here’s to embracing “character” and to good models who can make your day look even better than they can make your pieces look. Strength and comfort to us all! 💪🏼💜🐶🧶
