Anyone a dr or scientist or something? Today in my bio lab I dissected a pig and then when we were done I had to clean the surface with 70% ethanol spray. I forgot to put gloves on to clean with the ethanol and I was supposed to. When I realized, I washed my hands with warm water, but not for 15 min. My skin doesn’t burn or anything but I’m so scared that it absorbed through my skin and that I’m going to die. I am having a panic attack and crying.
Ethanol Spray cannot even come close to killing you unless you started drinking it
@DanielManz Thank you. Usually in another lab I’m in, they make me use gloves when I use it. But I didn’t this time which is why I started to freak out. How do i know I won’t die?
I have contamination OCD with a fear of pesticides…so I totally get where you are coming from. You received an answer from the TA…so take that information that you are most likely just fine…and sit with the discomfort of not having 100 percent certainty (which you will never find anyway)! You got this! I understand that chemicals can hurt, but the likelihood you have absorbed enough to kill you is probably none…

Let’s look at what we know…you washed your hands and you are feeling fine. It would take a large amount of chemical to harm you…more then may have accidentally been absorbed. I like having this chat with you because it is exactly what I feel. As for my concern with rodent pesticides….it would take a lot of repeated , purposeful ingestions to even cause minor ailments. So this is when you need to sit with the anxiety and it will pass!!

Tolerate this anxiety. Resist compulsions. You can do it! Is this likely to be a rational or irrational fear of yours? What is the evidence that it is rational? "Sometimes a thought is just a thought". "I can tolerate intrusive thoughts."
@JB1020 The problem is that I don’t know if it’s rational or irrational. Bc sure ethanol can be dangerous but did I really get enough on me? I washed my hands but not as long as they technically say to. Does that make a difference? I just don’t know. I wish I did.
If thus is a true medical emergency ask someone from the lab at school or call a medical professional.
@Anonymous I told my TA and asked if it was dangerous. She said no. But I’m afraid what if she wasn’t understanding what I was saying
I'm really scared I've poisoned myself... ....I dyed my hair yesterday evening and had a shower after and some of the water was still stoned with the dye. This evening I had a shower and the after still seemed a bit tinted. Some of the water (that must have gone through my dyed hair) ran down my face and into my mouth. I spat out a few times and I accidently swallowed. I'm now really worried am going to die in my sleep from poisoning :(
Guys I need help!! Two days ago my hand bled from cracked skin from hand washing too much. I got on a train with my fresh bleeding hand and as I sat down, my hand with the fresh small bleeding cut on banged against the plastic head rest. I didn’t notice before If there was any blood on the plastic, but when I looked up there was what looked like fresh blood on the area I think I knocked my hand on. Since then I’ve had this overwhelming fear that it might have been someone else’s blood, and now I’m riddled with hiv etc. I phoned the hiv helpline and sexual health helpline numerous times and they got frustrated with me and said it’s not transmitted like that. I’m terrified I’ll ruin my partner’s life
i was just looking in the fridge and there was some raw meat in a container but i didn’t know that it was meat so i opened the container to check what it was. and i don’t know if it was blood or if they were marinating it but a little bit of it got on my fingers and i wiped my hand on my clothes without thinking and then i just rinsed my hand in the sink, and thought it would be fine cause i only touched the container and i also wasn’t really sure if it was meat or not yet because i didn’t get a good look at it and i just kept doing what i was doing, but then i kept thinking about it and started realizing it wasn’t fine and went to wash my hands with soap and i didn’t know if i needed to change my clothes or not so i thought it was fine too and laid in my bed and stuff and now i realized that i should’ve changed my clothes and i did but now the bacteria could be on my bed and other places and i don’t remember everywhere i touched and i can’t think straight and im too scared to leave my room and wash everything in case of spreading it more and my dad and brother are drinking so they’re not gonna listen to me if i said to wipe everything out there and im just freaking out. i feel horrible for being so careless and i’m really scared that my pets and dad and brother will get sick because of me
