Does anyone on here ever wonder if the thoughts are really ocd,or am I really twisted,or do people with ocd ever act on their thoughts?im trying to get the concept that the thoughts aren’t true through my head.
Not anymore, no. Thoughts don’t matter unless you make them matter. That’s it.
the thoughts feel real. probably because we are super hyper aware of everything including our thoughts. we think “well I thought this so I must be going crazy. This must be true.” But the fact that we try to analyze and check how we feel towards it further explains that it is OCD. I just spoke with my ocd specialist about this same thing on Monday. When you have the thought, don’t try to analyze it or compare it to your character. Let it roll off no matter how much anxiety it gives you. It’s OCD doing it’s OCD thing. You got this!!!

@Anonymous I typically go into “what if” mode. But I’ve been working extremely hard on letting the thoughts be thoughts. I try to not to give it any attention anymore.
These are super common fears with OCD. “Do I actually like the thoughts,” being afraid that you’ll act on them, etc. Unfortunately as much as I wish we could logic our way out of OCD, it just won’t work. OCD doesn’t hear logic because it’s about a malfunction in our brains. The fear center is overly active so it sends distress signals even when there is no real danger. That’s why just “knowing” intellectually that the thoughts aren’t real isn’t enough. ☹️ The good news is that it IS really treatable! Have you done any ERP? The key to recovery is not to make the thoughts go away or prove they aren’t true, but instead to embrace the anxiety and just let it be there without trying to fight with the thoughts. Does anyone ever get scared that they are just trying to convince themselves that it’s OCD. I have this fear that my intrusive thoughts about harm aren’t actually intrusive nor is it actually OCD and I’m actually some sort of crazy evil human being all of a sudden. As I’m writing this I can see how silly that is. Of course it’s OCD, but there is always that “what if” and it makes me scared of myself. I know that this could be considered “obsessing about obsessing,” but like I said, there is always that, “What if you are different? An anomaly.”
Recently I have been struggling with sexual themed OCD and my main concern is that I can't help but thinking of real life situations, sexual thoughts, and feeling like I would enjoy it in real life (pocd, etc). I even have dreams in which I enjoy these sexual situations. I even feel like I like to think of these thoughts to test myself. I feel really disgusting and lost... Is is OCD or real attraction? Does it happen to anyone else? Would anyone have advice for me? Thank you so much and good luck 🫂
