Seeking book recommendations for parents of teens with OCD.

I understand what your daughter is experiencing and I can only imagine how distressed she feels . It's so so hard because we naturally want to give reassurance but what I've found in my ocd treatment is u do the exact opposite of that . I highly recommend trying to set her up with a therapist thru nocd of course and when she's having her distressing thoughts I would say maybe this is gonna happen or maybe not . The point is to not figure it out though it can be distressing . I don't have a book to recommend just cause i havent had the chance to look but I do have a YouTube channel I recommend ! It's called ocd and anxiety ! I know it's so tricky and hard but I hope this can help even a little.

She needs to see an ocd a therapist

I have religious ocd, and kids. I would recommend getting a specialist that specializes in ocd. The treatment is different and the wrong kind can make it worse.

Ask her specialist if they do ERP therapy for ocd specifically.

I would def try to find her a therapist who specializes or is at least familiar with ocd. Someone who isn’t familiar with ocd may hear some of the crazy thoughts and think something else worse is going on and offer the wrong advice/ treatment. Someone who specializes in ocd won’t be the slightest bit phased when hearing about a weird thought or obsession. I’m currently reading the book Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts. My 15 year old daughter also has ocd and I’m going to get her to read it after I’m done. Its very informative. You Mentioned you think that she is getting worse. How long has she been on medication? Sometimes when you first start taking antidepressants your anxiety can get worse before it gets better. It definitely happened to me. It took a couple of months to adjust.

She’s lucky that she has a mom who is being proactive in her care. It’s a great thing that she came to you for help and isn’t suffering in silence. I get how she is feeling and I understand how difficult it has to be for a loved one to understand this disorder. It’s awful and at times debilitating. If you dont know what it’s like to suffer from it you just can’t get it. I truly hope and pray that she finds the right treatment and gets better asap! Please let her know that with the right treatment she can definitely get better!
