My parents don't understand my OCD and they keep getting angry at me and guilt tripping me saying that I'm hurting everyone else but I literally can't help it and I really need some advice on how to explain what I'm going through
i’m sorry to hear what your going through, it sounds very frustrating and hurtful. my parents also made it very apparent that they couldn’t believe i had anything wrong with me. your parents are protective and it’s difficult to accept that there child is hurt. but besides that(internal denial), they need to still be supportive. remember that there avoidance issues are not your avoidance issues. they need to see and hear you no matter what. don’t let any tension build up within yourself (try not to internalize any negative feelings from your parents) it’s important to let them know that what they say does have an effect you. try to educate them as much as you can about ocd and how it affects you. sometimes they just become roommates if they won’t accept who their child is. Once your 18 it’s your job to reparent yourself. and forget any unwanted thought patterns they tried to bestow.

Sorry to hear this. My parents are extremely sympathetic to my OCD. My dad has OCD, but not as bad as me. Just try to explain you have a mental illness, that makes it difficult. You’re not trying to hurt anyone, it’s something beyond your control.

Check out the short The Noise in Your Head YouTubes by Reid Wilson and see if it will help them understand it better. If you are a minor, tell them you are trying but it’s not working and you understand that ERP therapy can help and you want to do it. I’m a Mom and have my son in therapy for his issues (not OCD) - if your parents care and don’t have denial around mental health issues they’ll want to help you if they are caring parents.
I told my close friends about my OCD a few months ago and they were really supportive at first however there is this one girl who is really horrible about it. She tells me regularly that I should ‘just stop’ and that if she had OCD, she would just find a way to turn it off which makes it seem as though I am making my problems up! As well as this, she will often laugh at me for doing my compulsions even though I have explained to her on numerous occasions what they are and why I need to do them. Does anyone have any ideas about how to explain to her why I am like this? I feel like I have tried everything! Any advice would be greatly appreciated ☺️

I have the worst contamination ocd and I really need help. I told my mom about it and she told me I was crazy and need to get over it. I told my dad and he understands (he also has ocd) but doesn’t think I need to see a doctor. I literally live my life everyday worrying about being clean and I know it’s totally not normal, so I just want to go back living a normal life. And my parents don’t think I need help. What do I do? :(
