Feeling Angry & frustrated

Its unbelievable to me how few therapists & so called mental health professionals Do NOT understand how to Treat OCD" ?? How is this possible when OCD is such a debilitating mental health illness that millions have? I and millions others suffer everyday with No help & unless ur wealthy enough to afford one of the rare therapists that actually treats OCD then ur left alone with nothing! Its just not Right!! ALL counselors & therapists SHOULD be skilled & trained in ERP & treating OCD. Its disgusting they have degrees years of schooling and OCD is completely left out as if we don't matter when it IS a REAL medical mental health condition!! I just don't get it!!

I don’t get it either and I’ve seen therapist who do ERP poorly because it’s not their specialty or because of other issues. But there are good ERP therapists out there -many of whom take insurance or do sliding scale. Yes, the state of mental health care is a mess but ERP is a specialty that many talk therapists would not be a good match for. If you want some free resources put out by good ERP therapists check out anxieties.com (I haven’t gone through it but the stuff he has on YouTube has been so useful for my struggles with OCD) and Shala Nicely’s website blogs.

You are not alone in this. I spoke with probably 5-6 talk therapists over the course of 6 years before I found one who was actually willing and able to treat OCD with ERP. Many of the other therapists would just try to have me logic my way out of the intrusive thoughts, which made things worse. I'm so grateful I found NOCD. If you aren't able to afford therapy with NOCD, there's a YouTuber who's channel is called "OCD and Anxiety" that has really helped me. Although I'd caution you to not fall into the habit of relying on him for reassurance. Sending prayers your way, you aren't alone and you are so much stronger than you think! ❤️

I understand your pain. I’ve seen a lot of therapists who say they treat OCD but don’t use ERP? It gets really difficult to find the right therapist who understands. OCD is a very specialized field of study so I understand why it can be costly, but it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to get the appropriate treatment—especially considering how easily OCD can become very debilitating. Thankfully there’s a lot of good resources out there that can help guide you on your journey. Some of my favourite resources are Ali Greymond, Chrissie Hodges, Jenna Overbaugh, and Dr. Ali Mattu. I hope this helps a bit, don’t give up 🫶🏽

Thank you to all, yes i know im not alone and that's what upsets me the most.. is that WE ALL need help and its not right were being punished for not having the right disorder" its like IF" we had any other disorder we would be TREATED ..but since its OCD" ...were basically screwed n left to die....just don't get it ...SMH" 🤦🤦

Any idea how to find an OCD Therapist that is any good? I live in MA and it seems impossible. Everyone I try seems to be a jack of all psychiatric disorders and it ends up just being a waste of time. The whole system is set up to milk the insurance company because they are being paid by the hour so it’s in their best interest if you don’t get better *quickly*. At least that’s what it seems like. Tried the NOCD directory and they don’t service MA.

I have been suffering from OCD for many years. I am on numerous medications through my psychiatrist and have been in therapy for over a year. I don’t feel like things have necessarily gotten better. While ERP has been a big part of my therapy, it has become harder to trust in the process. Has anyone experienced treatment-resistant OCD? I take responsibility for not being as dedicated to ERP as I was when I started, but I am so frustrated with my lack of progress. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Therapists

I'm currently visiting my third therapist in the last three years and none of them have helped me so far. None of them have given me any type of diagnosis so I'm not even sure if I actually have OCD, and it's driving me mad. The last session I had, I even felt like it made things worse rather that it helped. I wanna feel that trust to my therapist that you should feel to be able to share your emotions but I don't. I feel like its not going anywhere, like it's useless. Lately I've been thinking about finding a therapist here at NOCD, I've even looked up some specific people and they all seem really nice and sweet.
