Meds?
I’m slowing giving up on winging OCD. What medicines do you guys take you calm down your OCD? I have chronic anxiety as well.. and I get stressed so easily. Natural meds are welcomed as well.

i have yet to take any medication for my ocd, but when i’m really going through a hard anxious/stressful time i take ‘LifeSeasons Anxiety-T Stress Support supplements, they have magnesium Ashwagandha, Kava kava, L-theanine, and Theobromine. you can find them online, i really recommend.
@notmyocd1 do you feel like it brings you to a calmer state??
@FunkyFred definitely, just makes me feel less anxious within like 15 minutes.
@notmyocd1 wow thanks so much!
I take buspirone for anxiety and it’s helped so much not only with my anxiety but it allows me to have a clearer head and recognize compulsions easier/return back to my “rational” mind a bit quicker!
@OCDbuggy thanks so much! how many mgs you take?
@FunkyFred 5mg twice a day! Super low dose, but it’s made a huge difference for me!
@OCDbuggy i would prefer a low dose! thank you! i’ll look into this
It's not working for me anymore
@Smiley32 what were you taking?
@FunkyFred Buspar
@Smiley32 i’ve heard good reviews about sertraline, i have yet to start my prescription but if you’re bold enough to give it a try
Citalopram worked amazing for me when I was first diagnosed 11 years ago! Two pieces of advice: don’t be afraid to try something new, and make sure you follow through with completing therapy/erp!!! At that time I felt “cured” and didn’t follow through with any ERP. 11 years later (aka now) I had a relapse of symptoms and I realize its because I never truly learned how to deal with the symptoms and was constantly busy and distracted- I start therapy tomorrow and am excited to finally learn how to deal with the ocd directly. Meds are a wonderful tool to help get you in the right mindset and to give you the confidence to move forward!
@mamajacks thank you (:
@mamajacks also good luck going forward! i’m happy you’re on the road to recovery!
I take reperidone seems to really help
@BumbleBee19! thank you!
@BumbleBee19! I just got prescribed this, how long did it take for u to see its full effect? So far it’s been making me really sleepy or drowsy
@taboo_brain19 It made me feel sleepy for a few weeks I’ve been on it for about a month . I take it at night around dinner time so I am not as tired in the morning
@BumbleBee19! Does it help with ur ocd? Or just depression?
@taboo_brain19 It mainly targets intrusive thoughts from ocd

@The Anxious Go Getter Girl thank you!
I use a combo of luvox, Lamictal, and abilify and I also do ketamine therapy. That combo has changed my life and allowed me to put in work in erp and counseling that have gotten me to what I would consider significant remission. I was on the combo in the past but thought I was well enough to go cold turkey and I relapsed hard. Getting back on it was huge.
@messengervl wow! thank you sooo much!
@FunkyFred No problem! Meds are scary in general and OCD tends to only make it harder to take the plunge! The most important thing to remember is that it is trial and error but the benefits in the end are usually worth the hardship of finding your right fit.
@messengervl yeah i’m afraid of meds tbh, but i think it’s time.
I’m on Zoloft and Wellbutrin for OCD and other mental illnesses I have. It really helps with reducing my anxiety and stabilizing my mood!
@blazed thanks so much!
Does anyone who has OCD NOT TAKE MEDS? Is it possible to not take them and manage life in a way that is productive. (Not really sure what word to use here but I think you all get the idea)
Hiii - hope everyone is having a good day! Has anyone found any type of medication or supplements helpful with thinking sooo deeply about everything and intrusive thoughts? I’m in therapy + doing erp but my brain in this relapse of ocd just thinks sooo deep into my brain and i can’t seem to not to do it pull myself out. Like I’m just paranoid. An example would be if i simply look at my arm I’ll think so deeply about it like what’s under my arm what’s it look like inside etc. but if anyone not in this cycle looks at their arm they’ll be like hmm ok cool my arm and move on w their day. Just looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience of what I’m feeling rn.
As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.
