Can ocd be "What if God doesnt exist?"?

I searched about this, but all i found about religious ocd is questions like "did i commited a sin?", "do i go to hell?" , but not questioning God's existence. Do i struggle with my faith or this is ocd? How should i deal with this cause "maybe God exist, maybe not" will not work, it just makes it worse. I dont know if this is ocd or i actually realized that maybe believing God is just a choice,its imagination, and i feel bad... What should i do?

I'm struggling with the same. I think it is still OCD. We can't handle the anxiety of the uncertainty so we ruminate, talk to people, and Google to try to bring some amount of certainty to feel better about it. Which may feel better at times but ultimately the doubt comes back. Personally I got on some meds, talk to people I respect and who let me question a lot 1 on 1, and have been trying to let go of trying to control everything and trying to will myself to believe more. Whenever I try to force myself to believe more it always just makes it worse. But man does all this feel soul wretching at times.

I had another experience. Now the ocd doesnt made me anxious, more like sad. Like i wanted to have fun and my mind said isnt that thing what i wanted to do is sin, its a bad thing and i felt sad. But no anxiety

Going through the same theme right now. It’s probably OCD. Everyone that’s religious deals with some doubt that maybe what they believe isn’t real. They just don’t need the unrealistic certainty that OCD demands. I’m trying to learn how to let it go.

It got so bad that i losed my identity. I try to think that i believe in God and i love him but my mind and emotions tells otherwise... i dont know if i should say i dont believe or its just ocd. But can ocd give me these feelings of losing myself and my values? And if yes i guess trying to get back is a compulsion so what should i do? Live without them?

@PRIV8 If you truly didn’t believe in God, it wouldn’t be causing you this much distress. But once you stop trying to figure out if you “truly” believe in God, the thoughts should lessen in frequency and intensity. Emotions are liars. They don’t tell us anything about our beliefs.

@Anonymous I still have to accept them, that i feel like this and its hard... cause i feel like i add more to losing my values

@PRIV8 With the disclaimer that I am not religious myself ... religion tends to encourage believers to give up trying to "fix things" themselves and put their trust in God. Some even teach that you should ask God to give you the grace to believe in him -- putting your salvation in his hands, not yours. So I don't think that the idea of giving up control is really so incompatible with your values as you might think.

In my opinion the world is so weird that why not believe in a higher power, of course ocd loves to swoop in on something that can be so important. I’ve responded to the similar struggle you have mentioned just by saying to myself “we live on a spinning rock a big man in the sky is not the weirdest thing around me”

Questioning my faith or ocd

Since I started to accept that maybe some of the problems i deal with might be things that i should accept cause either way I feel shame if i have these thoughts, and i think that being that person is shameful. I'm struggling these days and I noticed I have thoughts about God not being real, not helping me, questioning if its real and these thoughts makes me feel shame. But i keep accepting it cause Im tired that i feel like im lying to myself and everytime i feel like im avoiding the truth, so I try to accept it that its okay that im having these problems(I do the same with suicidal ocd,I start to accept maybe its real) but since im doing this I noticed it makes me depreassed cause of shame. Made things worse, I always spin about shame that it might be true, i try tk accept it but it doesnt work, I feel like maybe i should go back and label every feeling and thought as ocd but i know i wouldnt be free cause i would feel like im trying to make myself feel better... But if its ocd, how can I decide its that if I have the emotions like im losing my faith, I get angry when i hear about faith, sometimes i feel like i really question it, have thoughts like i dont want to have faith...

OCD 'feeling real'

I suffer from religious ocd. My only goal in life is to live in God's will and to serve Him - to live and enjoy His eternal purposes & His presence. Jesus Christ is my life. That is my only desire on this earth, this short trip into eternity, and it's being stripped by ocd thoughts and intrusive thoughts 24-7. I have read many times that ocd can 'feel real', and this is true, our minds lie to us because of fear and anxiety we can't and were never meant to carry. I have begged and tormented myself in every way to find an answer from God. I think His answer may be that this is OCD, but I'm not sure. I started therapy again because I am so exhausted and this had stolen so much of my life in a spiral of negativity, depression, and constant anxiety & intrusive thoughts. I have spent about 2 years trying to figure out if my thoughts are real or not, especially with ocd it can deceive so easily as a spiritual matter when in reality it is just a thought, which is confusing and scary to say the least. Can anyone share their experiences with this sensation? No matter what the theme is... Thank you & Praying for your comfort

Religious OCD

Hi! I have been struggling with ocd for many years of my life, however, I have recently been struggling with religious ocd. Currently my ocd has been putting thought into my mind like, “you shouldn’t go to that party, because “God” doesn’t what you to” or “don’t do this or else it’s going to make “God” mad.” These thoughts have been overall causing me so much anxiety, and truly I don’t know what to do. I’ve been struggling to identify it’s actually Gods voice or not. Also, my ocd has been also making my prayer a very stressful part of my day, which is not how it should feel at all. Now finding peace in prayer feels more like a chore, than a conversation. Does anybody else have ocd like this? If so, any tips?
