Can constant looking in the past to check and fear you might of done something wrong make memories. I always have these images of things I fear and woke up today and had a horrible memory. It felt like I remembered it. Iām hoping itās not.
Oh my god that's literally me all the time! Sometimes when we check and check and check and check our memories every time we do get more and more distorted. Try to focus on the future and not ruminate on them too long if it's not right in front of you there's nothing to fear. You're not alone in this I feel exactly what you're going through. š
@Applecore This is a random one that just popped up. Iāve been going over images in my mind over and over in just thoughts. Itās like all day I get these little quick mind pops or am on defense all day. They feel so real and authentic, how do you not believe them. They mix with actual thoughts that are real and you think of I can remember this than itās real to. I have a great memory and that makes it hurt even more because how can it not be true?
@Anonymous Live with the uncertainty. I know it's hard trust me I struggle with it as well but you'll find that it becomes easier the more you stop ruminateing. You will never know the full story and TBH even if you did your OCD will never be satisfied. Live in the moment and just move forward. What also helps is to forgive the fact that we all were dumb back then but you know better now and are a different person. Forgive yourself :)

@Ilovedylan20@ They feel real from the beginning. Like actual memories. Itās aggravating because anything can be or not be where you have a mental illness even when your memory is excellent.
@Anonymous Yes!! I get really angry and frustrated as people say " oh what if I did" but mine just feel sooooooo real. Like they'r feel like actual memories!!
@Ilovedylan20@ Same! Mine are never āwhat ifā but more like āyou just did thisā or an instant image. Now when they come along in the moment I know itās OCD, but for ones in the past I just donāt know, and I hate that.
@xyz22 I started looking back when this theme started. Trying to see if I did something wrong. Now they pop up daily multiple times throughout the day, like mind pops and feel incredibly real. I just sit here ruminating all day. The guilty conscience and strong feelings of guilt I feel everyday.
@xyz22 This is spot on!!! Mine genuinely feels like a yep you just did that!!! Yet here I am seven years later and no consequences lol. But every day just feels like the " day" if you get what I mean!!

@xyz22 Yes!!! Exactly that!!! Do you ever get the same of the thought? So like I've had harm false memories and even tho I know how distressed it makes me I still get different ones!!

I sometimes mistake intrusive thoughts or like TikTokās or other peoples post as ā memories ā or ā dreamsā and convince myself it has something to do with my life
I got another one this morning like yesterday morning. It showed me something in my mind and I remembered it from the past. It feels so real and Iām hoping itās fake. Anyone know why this happens? Itās like a flashback. Amy advocates know anything?

How do you know the difference :( I genuinely cannot keep living in this torment. it all started with an āintrusive thoughtā where I had like a hazy flash of something reading an article. and I remember thinking āwhat ifā and āwhat is thisā and then that intrusive thought turned into me ārememberingā something else. which caused me panic. then I started trying to find evidence because it contradicted what I remembered this entire time. this was last year in like september. fast forward to march this year, it came back up- but this time stronger and with more ādetailsā and what nots. and Iāve been ruminating on it since then trying to remember and connect and Itās like Iāve added all of these details. but are they real? or is this just my OCD? I just feel like if it were real I would have never been able to keep it to myself. but also what if it was so traumatic that I blocked it out? because it all makes NO sense for me to do something like that. but it also fits what I was thinking at the time. idk
I have had the same false memory/instrusive image of me doing something horrible to someone when I was 12 and they were younger. It is a memory based on a real event. I truly donāt know if itās real or not but obviously, the more I think about it the more I think itās true. This has led my mind to become slightly paranoid. I worry that if this horrible image in my head is true then one day the person I might have hurt will come and k*ll me. Iām really scared I feel like I wonāt feel better as long as this āmemoryā is in my head. Does anyone have advice?
I ruminated too much this morning and got distressing mental images (and confirmation) which sent me spiraling again. How do I stop thinking about this and how do I get back to myself? I feel destroyed.
