How do you guys deal with a mouse getting trapped inside your home? I haven't gotten out of bed cause I heard my family members saying a mouse had been trapped I feel like it was all over my stuff and gotten in/on my chest drawers, shoes, etc, like it's disgusting but idk something related happened to me almost 2 years ago that was really traumatic to me so it's hard for me to deal w this
I hope you were able to find something to help in the moment! If so, please let me know because I’ve only been able to find one thing that helps and would love more options. When that happens to me with bugs/rodents, I like to keep an animal with me if possible. I’ve found that my cat will help me search the room for any remaining pests, and will alert me if there’s anything nearby. He’s successfully killed a few bugs for me and his presence helps me feel a bit safer.
@Sav_ What about things do you clean every single thing? Even tho rodent might not even gotten in my room I feel like it did my mom and dad just don't anything about it they think it normal and that just disgustes me 🤢 They really don't help at all with my OCD or even try to understand.
Pest control.
I normally take things out of drawers and shake them off or wipe them down with Lysol, and do a bed check (normally end up cleaning my bedding if possible just to be safe). My biggest things are showering and putting on fresh clothes. That’s usually enough to help a decent bit if I don’t have time to do a deep clean of everything. It is sooo hard having so many thoughts about cleanliness that other people don’t think about often. I’m still trying to find a way to help other people understand how hard it is to deal with, but I’m hoping that being on this app will help with that a little bit.
@Sav_ That's probably what I will do but again like I'm now even sure if it got in there but my mind keeps asking or doubting it might have. I had just build a new drawer it's empty so that we'll be easy to clean the others don't have a place we're it might gotten to go upwards so I'm gonna try and live like that. My family members just go on with their day as if they didn't care idk I've actually gotten up cause before or 2 years ago I just laid in my bed like for 3 straight days and now I'm doing laundry
@HenryTowers Doing something about it and then trying to distract myself is one of the most helpful things I can usually do. Music and an activity to do with my hands seems to be the best. I hope you’re doing a bit better this time than you did last time it happened! It’s hard when things that have happened before happen again.
@Sav_ I'm starting to do that. I just broke the OCD cycle that I had not too long ago I was bulging up to that and I felt it that day and this a new part of recovery for me, I do at times just play with a friend online to try and delay compulsion or what not. And yes it was hard but didn't take me too long to accept the thoughts
What helped the most to break the OCD cycle? My therapist doesn’t specialize in OCD so hasn’t been able to provide many tips, and virtual therapy has never really been my thing unfortunately.
@Sav_ Currently I have no therapist but I do try to educate myself as much as I can, for me it was so weird at that moment. Like caring about touching this or that but doing/touching this anyways. I still avoid so much stuff but that day I think was so important to me cause it broke that endless cycle I was in, always avoiding and stoping doing things I wanted to do. I'm still taking baby steps but I'm glad I can even get out of bed and have something to eat cause that's a luxury to me after a "bad" event has happened. I want to try NOCD but atm I don't have the financials to do it :/
I want to try taking those baby steps but still get paralyzed when I think about doing so. One day at a time I guess, some days are better than others.
@Sav_ That's exactly what I tell myself 😂 It's sounds cliche but once you actually be like "I didn't do much today 😥" I tell my self that my OCD has been so bad that it's normal to sometimes not see advancements cause of how bad it was and they smol sometimes we don't see. Again this days I'm just happy I got out of bed even if for some people that's nothing 🤷🏻♂️
That’s a good way of looking at it, I need to remember to think about it like that more often. That reminder helped. I get how hard that can be sometimes, that is definitely a good step in the right direction!! :)
I live in my parents’ house and they are currently redoing the roof and the insulation in the attic. My parents’ house is at least 50 years old. The only way into the attic is through my room. I knew I would have to relocate but now I feel like my room is contaminated and can just never been clean. I feel like everything needs to be thrown away that was exposed to the old insulation or touched by the workers. No matter what I do I just will always think that my room is dirty. Does anyone know how to push past getting stuck with these thoughts? Or dealing with people making you feel worse because they don’t understand?
Earlier I posted about trying to get back to sitting on my sofa without a blanket covering it. And I did it, but now my day has been ruined. I left for two seconds and my cat decided to sit there, so now it's not clean anymore. This is because sometimes she's had number two stuck to her and no longer trust that she's clean. It took so much for me to just do that and sit without a blanket and now I'm just so done. I'm also scared to walk anywhere in my house. We sometimes get slugs in our conservatory and I don't walk in there anymore because there can be slug slime trails (it's carpet). The thing is, my mum regularly goes in there, my dad too. And then they proceed to walk around the rest of the house without changing shoes or anything. I'm just panicking because I was having a good day and now I feel like I'm isolated to my bedroom.
I was home for a couple of weeks with my family and two days ago my sister found small blood stains in her bed in a separate room. Our exterminator came and looked hard. he did not find any bugs or other signs in her room or in mine. Despite this, he did believe that the stains were from bedbugs and treated her room. there were no visible signs of bed bugs other than a couple of blood stains on her bedsheets. Nobody has seen any bugs or gotten bit…. Yet. The exterminator said Its fine for me to go home normally, but if I’m worried to wash my clothes when I get home tonight. Our dryer is not very hot and given my previous trauma with bedbugs I am in a state of complete panic. I am no stranger to these as when I was in high school my dorm building had them. This dominated my every thought. I’d shake my clothes whenever i took them off, obsessively checking, feeling itchy/things crawling on me without existing avoid people in “that” part of the dorm and obsessing constantly. I never had them but it dominated my life for a long time. Now its back. I am freaking out. I had to pack my bag and leave that day. I got home, bagged the clothes i was wearing, put everything in the basement, took a shower then washed and dried all of my clothes. In my two days home, i barely slept the first night and today was better but im not doing anything tonight and im ruminating/obsessing heavily. Checking everything i can, feel itchy/something is crawling on me. It’s all i think about and given how long it can take for bbs to appear after introduction, I fear it will be until I have something more extreme/pressing to fixate on.
