I read something about a christian saying that people with OCD have a demon inside of them and I can’t get it out of my head and I feel like I can’t have a relationship with god. Especially with these harm intrusive thoughts. I’m scared I’ll always feel like this.
I'm Catholic. When I first got Harm OCD, I thought that, and I thought I committed some sin. However, this is not true. Mental illness is a real thing. The Church even has a patron saint of mental illnesses, St. Dymphna. If you had a demon inside you, you wouldn't want a relationship with God. There are many stupid, stupid Christians out there who think they're doing good. Mental illness is real. Just as someone might be born or later develop a problem with the body, we have it with our brain. Rest easy. God wants you to talk to Him and He will listen and help you.
There's nothing that can separate us from God (Romans 8:39). I have dealt with ocd as a Christian for years and it's not easy but it's not anything that takes you away from Christ. Jesus can permeate the walls of ocd anything to find you (and me!). Im not sure where it is in the bible (one of the gospels I think) but there is a man who was blind from birth and the disciples ask who sinned that he was born blind, his parents or the man himself. And Jesus says neither. He was born blind so that the power of Christ could be seen in him. I like to think about my ocd that way. It's not because I sinned that I have ocd, it's not even some punishment for my parents or distant relatives sin. It's so the glory of God can be seen in me. Somehow, some way. You may or may not find this comforting but it helps me ❤️ I only hope that I can help others with OCD and then maybe my suffering will have meant something

@Whyyocd I just found it! It starts at John 9:1 :) I even wrote on the side of my bible notes “who sinned? Me or my parents that I was born with OCD? Neither. But so the works of God would be displayed in me”

My relationship with god has always been on and off. But after having my daughter and going through harm ocd I got closer to god. I am not a die hard christian. But I do have a relationship with god. And many night when I was in fear and terrified of my thoughts I turned to him. I had nothing else to turn too. My family is religious. My mothers side being catholic and my fathers Christian. But I was never really religious. But I truly believe god loves everybody. Those with mental health issues, those struggling with addictions, and even the most horrible people. I believe god loves everyone. There is no demon inside people with ocd. We are loving people, just the way god created us. We basically just get scared a lot. I remember my therapist telling me she’d trust anyone with ocd to watch her children. I remember being so taken back by that cause she knew what thoughts popped into my head. But we’re good people just scared. That’s person seems confused and clearly had never dealt with ocd.
The devil tempted Jesus, and Jesus was perfect. The Jesus I read about in the Bible would still accept people of all kinds. He accepts people with mental illness. I hope the god you worship is kind and loving. If so, that God will accept all His children, and accepts you. I like to not think of OCD as a devil. Gives it too much power. It's a quirk of the brain. Makes anxiety thoughts stick.
I feel that way but I'm not Christian
I mean like we believe in the devil and demons, then you hear that others on social media talks about ocd being a demon possession, or any mental illness being a demon, and if you believe that and it helps you, do it, but this makes me more paranoid. I just let my tiktok algoritm become more christian but then it ended up being this "we call everything a sin and a demon" type of videos which made me question if im really a good person and saved, and now im even afraid of demons, that they are attacking me and thats why im dealing with fear, and it just scares me, it became so bad that i start to get paranoid like im sure you experienced that when you think youve seen something in the corner of your eye, like something moved, and this just worsenes the fear... i know im dealing with fear but you know my mind still makes up shit... As a christian its really hard to deal with ocd, cause we do believe in demons but we cant view mental illness as possession, it just doesnt help, and i got to a point where i started questioning everything i hear about the bible and then i realized maybe its not a good thing tho, so i started to learn about things and now im back at fearing demons and that i have a demon or i can be posessed in the future. Same with sins, legalist people made me angry so i just ignored everything they said but then i realized maybe its egoistic to think everything they say its just legalism, and i went back learning about it and now im having this legalist/is this a sin or not problem. It feels like im on a spiral, i always come back to fear demons and fear that what i do is actually a sin and i live a sinful life
The past few days have been a lot better. But recently I’ve been struggling again with dark wicked unwanted blasphemous thoughts. Such as demonic thoughts, devil thoughts, Satan heart thoughts, worship thoughts & s soul thoughts. These thoughts scare me so much. Especially since I have been having False Memory and it makes me think I’ve accidentally said those nasty thoughts out loud. Sometimes the thoughts are demands of blank enter my heart which is so scary! Or it replaces there names. I just hate when my mind says I “want them” I don’t. I love Jesus & God so much and I feel like I’m disappointed them or made them mad. I don’t ever want them to leave me. Does God & Jesus love me even with these awful thoughts? Sometimes I just get so much guilt & shame. Last night the really hit me hard after being ok for the last 3 days. I just don’t ever want God & Jesus to reject me or look at me with disgust. I know He loves us so much but it’s difficult to see whenever these disgusting thoughts come. I just feel so “far” or how could He want someone like me. I try to remind myself a lot of us Christians struggle with blasphemous thoughts. Religious OCD is pretty common for having devil/demonic thoughts but it just makes you feel so evil. Any advice? Does God & Jesus still love me even with these thoughts, feelings, urges? I pray and sometimes I just feel shame. I love them. Am I okay?
Hello all, so I have been struggling with intrusive thoughts that come against God and his spirit. And I can't tell if it's me anymore or OCD. Sometimes I'll get one bad thought about his spirit And then the thoughts just stick around scaring me And confusing me. I keep getting super hot and feel like I'm on fire. What if these thoughts are coming from me is my biggest fear and idk what to do about it. Idk who I am anymore and I'm worried that I am a bad person. What if these thoughts stick around forever and I will never recover from these thoughts. I'm having trouble excepting that they are intrusive because they scare me so bad I want to be 1000% sure I'm not offending God. But a part of me can't shake the feeling that it is me. I'm scared and nervous and I haven't slept good in almost 3 months. I'm really tired of fighting this and scared at the same time what if It was me all along and that I'm never gonna make it to heaven.
