My OCD has expanded to my Roman Catholic beliefs by a voice in my head saying blasphemous things about God and his son Jesus when I’m learning from Catholic teachings, the Holy Spirit rosary prayer, and the Bible. I don’t know how to stop this monster that’s inside of my mind!🥺
I, too, have dealt with this theme. In the morning, I ask God for forgiveness for any thoughts, images, etc., that I may have toward the Holy Trinity and our Blessed Mother, sighting that it's OCD, not what I truly believe, and then go on with my day. If during the day I have a thought, I just tell God that I'm sorry and it's just OCD. Period. I don't dwell on it. The trick is to not agonize over it, which just feeds your OCD. God knows your heart. He knows you don't mean it.
I struggle with this too. Just remember your not consenting to the thoughts so they are just thoughts. I also feel doing the Devine Mercy helped and then I read the book I believe in Love from the teachings of St. Terese and it is absolutely a must read! It’s all about God’s love for us. Someone suggested it for those with OCD and I really enjoyed it. God’s with you.
I was raised Catholic and I totally relate. OCD definitely attached to my faith. My faith had always been a source of comfort for me, so it was really hard when OCD got involved. Then, I would pray compulsively when I was anxious or have intrusive thoughts. Then I'd have to repeat things or "clarify" in my conversations with God. I'd pace around while talking to God. It turns out those were compulsions, so I had to stop praying for a bit. Now, I only pray ("chat with God") when I'm not anxious and not in response to intrusive thoughts and not as a distraction from them. ERP should help you with this challenge so you can return to your faith-based values. Keep in mind, as others suggested, that these thoughts aren't wanted - they're OCD being a jerk. You'll learn to accept that these thoughts happen and how to let them go because they don't mean anything about you (other than that you have OCD and it targets what you care about). Have faith in the science of ERP and trust that God knows who you are. There's uncertainty in life that you accept every minute of the day... there are just a few areas in which you can't tolerate uncertainty and this is, understandably, one of those areas for you. You'll be able to get back to practicing your faith without so much distress again if you can do ERP consistently... starting with really little things and working your way up. You can do this! It really makes things better, even though it's scary at first. Sending lots of support to you 🩷
I struggled with religious ocd 9 years ago. It really helped me when I heard God said to me at one point: “I know you don’t want this.” - After this I could stop asking forgiveness and mentally check myself. I still didn’t like having the thoughts of course, but not worrying about them helped a ton. Ironically, the more you want them out, the more they’ll stay. But if you can go “oh an intrusive thought” and see that as apart from yourself, then that helps. Also keep trusting in the work of Jesus on the cross. In the end, that is what will set you free and forgive all your sins. Though I don’t think having ocd is sinful. It’s a disorder in the brain. We need healing/recovery for that, not forgiveness. And God will surely help us get through this.
As a fellow Roman Catholic myself, I think when you're learning and praying is what’s going to help you. When your pray the Rosary, ask our mother to help you get over OCD and the devil schemes which he uses OCD. Don’t worry and just focus on your goals and God. May he bless you🙏
Like myself and Jenette McCurdy, does anyone think that the Holy Spirit talks to them? OCD attacks all my beliefs. As I was sitting down on my chair reading something, a thought came up in my head saying come Holy Spirit when I wasn’t even trying to talk to God in that moment. My thoughts went on saying will this happen, and I heard like 2 voices. One said yes the other said no. I stopped in my tracks. I feel like crying and anxious as I type this. It wasn’t a feeling that made me feel peaceful, calm or happy like what the Holy Spirit does, rather than be confused and anxious. I never believe the Holy Spirit would answer a question like that rather than just being you up when down. My OCD has been toying with this one thing mainly and it was attack about it just now. It feels so convincing that that was the Holy Spirit and I’m filled with anxiety
So about 2 weeks ago I started having blasphemous intrusive thoughts about God & Jesus! I’ve had them before but they’re hard to brush off because you feel awful and disgusted for even having them. They were “rejecting thoughts” I finally was able to just let them float on by and not pay attention to them. My main theme is doubting God & Jesus but I’ve noticed it’ll switch on me. Sometimes my mind will doubt if it’s OCD! So currently 2 days ago I’ve been getting the blasphemous thoughts again but when I said “I love you Jesus” I heard instead of Jesus it was Satan! I panicked and sometimes when I say I love Jesus and God I hear “I love you S____” it freaks me out!!! I love God & Jesus so much! Those thoughts cause so much anxiety!!! I would never say that thought and I wish it would go away or remove all those thoughts! I Like ughh those awful intrusive thoughts hurts so much! Some times if feels like I think them or say them purposely in my mind! But I try to remind myself I don’t want them! They cause so much anxiety and distress for a reason! It’s just so annoying when it’s constantly changing and throwing other “themes” I try to tell myself this is still in the same category! I had a certain blasphemous thought weeks ago and now it’s a “new” one and I think it’s still a thought it’s just different and maybe that’s how it’s trying to trip me up! But then usually a bunch of them start coming like beating me down! Maybe it’s the themes switching up on me again but ughh it’s really hard! Makes it feel like it’s me but I don’t want these thoughts at all!!! Everytime I say I love Jesus & God those thoughts come and just randomly! I feel like it’s “me” but I’m reminding myself it’s OCD! The more I react the more they come! They make me feel like God is mad at me or He doesn’t love me which I know isn’t true at all! I know He loves me so much!! It’s just so sad that my mind thinks that! Sometimes I feel like He is mad or will leave me but I know that’s not true!! Any advice please 😭
Hi everyone! My main theme in religious OCD is doubting God & Jesus! It hurts me heart I love them but I’m trying to remember His love and grace! Recently I’ve been having major blasphemous intrusive thoughts! I’ve had them before throughout my OCD journey but this time it’s kinda hard to let go and they’re coming so hard! They scare me! They can be very mean and just disgusting. Cursing, denying and just thoughts I hate! I ask for forgiveness and don’t always “feel” forgiven! I love Jesus & God! These thoughts hurt so much! Sometimes they make me feel like I want them or I’m saying them on purpose! I feel like I subconsciously “check” & ruminating on them. I know this is a normal and common OCD theme but it’s like sometimes I feel like I doubt my OCD! Especially whenever I have blasphemous intrusive thoughts! Like my brain just thinks “nope it’s you not OCD”. Like it doesn’t feel like OCD but Ik OCD can make it feel “very real”. It makes me feel like God is mad at me or upset! Or He doesn’t love me as much or just can’t be “forgiven” which I know is a lie and not true! I love God so much! Ik OCD attacks on hat we love it’s just my mind will doubt I have it! Please any tips to overcome these thoughts! I feel a lot of shame, guilt, fear, anxiety and sadness for having these thoughts! I know people say “they’re just thoughts” and not bad but they feel like that. Any advice?! Has anyone else gone through this?
