Hi, im currently using this as a survey for a school project! I would really appreciate it if you could comment your answer.. anyways heres the question: Is OCD as recognized and respected as anxiety and depression? Why?
I don’t think ocd is recognized or respected as much as other mental health conditions. I will say I think it’s on the rise with more celebs/ people opening up on public forums. I think it’s not as accepted bc we are so afraid of our thoughts we don’t want to share them, we think somthing is wrong with us. When I was diagnosed with ocd it was like a weight was lifted, we are not “crazy” we’re are over thinkers.
So when I say I have anxiety, my sister tells me it's more than anxiety. She too has OCD.
No. OCD is seen as a joke by most people. It's "quirky" and used in casual conversation all the time (example: "I'm so OCD" referring to something that annoys them). It is not well understood by the general public. Half the time I express my obsessions to someone they laugh and think I'm trying to be funny.
In the medical profession yes, but societally speaking no, its still extremely misunderstood and dismissed
OCD is a life sucking terrible terrible mental illness and it’s seen as society as cleaning or “oops my intrusive thoughts won” like no if my intrusive thoughts won… no.
I think because it’s so complex, people don’t take the time to think about it. We don’t hear of people killing themselves because of their OCD, mostly depression. and some people don’t see OCD like they can see anxiety.
Hello, If anyone's comfortable with it, could you answer me these questions? Have you had a bad or a good childhood? Did your environment treat you well? Since when have you had ocd? Personally I've been bullied throughout middle school and when i was even younger. My mom went through some difficult stuff when i was 11 and i witnessed first hand some really bad displays of aggression between her and dad. I don't know if that counts, but I've also been traumatized by a bedbug infestation that made me fear insects A LOT. I've had ocd ever since i was 10.
Part of my goal is to give back to others who have struggled like me so I would love to answer questions anyone has about OCD, Anxeity, or Depression! As a background around 2 years ago I fell into a really bad stint of depression, anxeity, and severe OCD. Through help with NOCD and lifestyle changes I was able to get my life back on track and create a wonderful life for myself! Drop any questions/ reach out if you just want to talk below!
I was wondering if you guys agree. I have PTSD, GAD, depression, an eating disorder and OCD. I feel like every time, OCD is taken the least serious, while to me its the worse... Also, my OCD makes it hard for me to search for help cause my OCD tells me Im a bad person, I dont deserve help, Im not allowed to show my emotions Because of that I cant show how bad it is, especially cause its pure ocd, so people dont mention my struggle or take me serious. But i feel like, in general, of all my disorders, OCD is taken the least serious, while to me its the worst of all. I hate it... i hate OCD so much, its debilitating and nobody can see it.
