I'm dating this genderfluid person and now I'm apparently pansexual. According to them. So uh yeah. That's happening. And wtf do I do cuz I really like her (pronouns are she/him) it didn't bother me initially but my friend brought that up and it started freaking me out. She's okay with me calling her my girlfriend. And like I'm straight but I'm not? I'm confused.
Not necessarily? I’m pansexual. Pansexual means you’re just attracted to peoples hearts, not caring what their parts are or what they were born with. You can still be straight and date female presenting non-binary humans.
This is such a unique and complicated dilemma. Labels are how people present themselves. Sexuality is so complex and we naturally want to fit it into perfectly-shaped boxes. However, people’s sexualities often don’t fit perfectly into those distinct boxes so we find the one that best fits our wants. However, someone else might disagree and think that your sexuality would fit better in their box. And sometimes, maybe it would, but oftentimes it wouldn’t. Your girlfriend likely wants to feel validated in his identity, and labeling yourself as pansexual may offer that validation. But your identity is yours. If a label feels uncomfortable or causes you distress, then you’re not obligated to take it. If you do decide that you don’t feel comfortable with that label, let your partner know that you not labeling yourself as pansexual is not intended to devalue her gender identity.
The way I decided to look at it is I'm in love. The label doesn't matter. She's literally the best. It is an odd dilemma but it's one that I was allowing to be a problem. Quite frankly, she is the best thing that's ever happened to me. (I call her she as she refers to herself as she more commonly than he or him. It also makes me more comfortable)
See it's not even her that brought up that fact that I would be considered pansexual. It was a friend who is aware of the OCD I deal with and asked if I was willing to accept that fact. But it isn't a fact as I'm not devaluing my partners identity by affirming my sexuality. And that's why I respect her so much because she doesn't make a big deal out of it.
@OCDwontownme Then that’s truly wonderful and being in love and loved in return is what matters most of all. 💕 I apologize if anything I said came off as presumptuous. It sounds like in this situation, you are handling your OCD stress well, staying out of the spiral, and putting priority in your happiness and values. :)
@PumpkinFrapp Yes! I've been struggling with doubting my feelings as well but I've sat through it. Not every moment in a relationship is a happy one haha. I've found that sometimes she's a little too affectionate for me. I know she'll listen to me so I really don't have anything to worry about :)
Have you told them you’re straight? Sometimes this bothers non-binary humans, but some don’t mind. I’m non-binary but use he/they pronouns.

I’m really just starting to believe my thoughts. Being with a girl doesn’t bother me anymore. But does that mean I’m lesbian now?? I’m at a point where I don’t know what I want.
