Lgbtq+ and OCD

I’ve got ocd and am bisexual. Since so many homophobic people see lgbtq people as groomers and p words I’ve been kinda worsening. People see bisexuality as insatiable lust and some sort of sexual deviancy and perversion. Those ideas have not been helpful for my ocd and I really feel myself almost believing those sick words. My brain is exhausted and confused. Can others bigotry play a role in worsening ocd symptoms? Cause it sure feels like it.

I totally know what you mean, and imo bigotry can totally play a role in ocd symptoms. Those really hurtful and untrue stereotypes about bisexual and queer folk, can negatively impact anyone- and it would be reasonable to assume that it may impact someone with ocd more than others. In my personal experience, as a queer woman this has been something I’ve struggled with since when I was first discovering/ coming to terms with being queer. (About 5 years ago) At this point I thought I was just an “anxious type of person” and wasn’t educated about ocd so I couldn’t really identify obsessions/ rumination/intrusive thoughts. But the fear of being perceived as a predator or sexually deviant etc by society and even peers or adults around me made me really uncomfortable with coming out. It made me feel really icky for being queer, and I even feared my close friends or family would fundamentally change the way they saw me and our exchanges. I was worried they would see my usual innocent physical contact as creepy, or take my compliments as something more than it is. You also never know who is going to have prejudice, and I feel like that unpredictability can fuel the ocd too. I’m in a much better place with my acceptance now but it definitely took some time. I like to remind myself that homophobia and bigotry is a THEM problem and queerness is not anything shameful or “dirty” Sending you love 💗

I struggle with the same thing . Sometimes I feel disgusted with my sexual orientation .I hope it will get better . Being queer is not wrong

@Mitu_001 i totally understand you and as someone who is also bi but doesn’t care about labels or what the person is i have a wonderful partner myself she’s lovely and seeing these things on the internet on how it should be or what people see us as or just making us look like not apart of the community makes me feel extremely guilt and constantly sparking up my head. i just came back from tiktok and there is just to much about being bi/queer/lesbian it was to a point where my head was so overwhelmed and ashamed for a second, before i as well was ashamed on who i was sometimes i do feel that way because they have pointed things out that i think is normal for people who grew up on certain type of society such as family. I’ve been better then before but today was a spike we just can’t let things trigger us so much when it comes to doubts or fears.
