Tiktok triggers!
Does anyone find tiktoks about being ‘realising’ they are gay or coming out later in life really triggering? I have SO-OCD and seeing those things makes me question everything so deeply. How do you cope with this please.
For sure! It’s absolutely triggering. I cried over it many times and was convinced that it was going to happen to me one day too. In therapy I had to watch those videos and read stories like that as ERP. It was exhausting and scary but the more I did it, the less triggering it became. Now it doesn’t bother me that much anymore. So my advice is to watch those tiktok’s as an exposure and use non-engagement responses such as: “yes, this could be me but I don’t have to figure it out”, “I’m anxious and upset but I don’t have to get rid of these feelings”, or “I can handle the uncertainty of not knowing”. Try your best not to avoid those videos if they come up, I know it’s hard but it gets easier over time. You can do it ❤️
@blazed Thank you I will try this, i think its because I love my boyfriend so much that it so scary for me as it tells me i have so much I would lose, I want to beat this so will give it a go. Thanks!!
Oh unfortunately yes, and I don’t know why tiktok keeps showing me those kind of videos even if I clicked on the option that I don’t like them so they should not appear again. However, even if I feel soooo stressed at the moment, I try to think that their experience is not mine. Maybe it can be similar, or maybe not. Maybe I’ll come out, or maybe just not. It’s all about accepting uncertainty. It is not easy to tell you like this, because today I was feeling so bad because of my ocd, I cried I don’t know how many times and I feel so lonely and not understood and like my life is slowly falling into pieces, but actually the truth is what I told you: accept uncertainty and the answers will come to you.
@Anonymous I press that all the time! I think its as when they do come up I do watch them? Accepting uncertainty when you know thats not you deep down is so hard. You’ve got this!
Tw: I wish my TikTok wouldn’t be so triggering. Just saw a video of a woman who came out as a lesbian despite being married 8 years to a man and said “the closet was DEEP”. I’m just so scared that’s going to be me. I don’t want it. I’m so scared. Urgh:/ sorry
Hi there, I am looking to get some support and advice, I recently started to suffer from SO-OCD due to tiktok. My feed started to have videos " if you did this or thought this you are gay" or videos of girls coming out later in life. I have never questioned my sexuality and have always been with men, I find it triggering as some of the things mentioned in the videos, I agree with but never thought it could mean I was gay. It had made me question everything and made me try to look back on the past to see if there were any evidence of this. I am nowhere near homophobic, but this is not the life I want for myself, so why is my mind so fixate on these thoughts if this is not who I identify nor want. I also struggle with ROCD Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated! xx
Does anyone else think TikTok is the biggest trigger, for all my themes! I also get triggered so much by ‘late bloomers’ I just watched a tik tok of a women who came out later in life and the comment section was full of so many comments like I was married for 10 years, 40 years, 20 years etc and it just triggered me so much I feel like I want to cry, even thought right now I don’t feel like one I’m so scared I’ll realise it later in life or that I’m just hiding it And it brings in so much guilt incase I am because I have a boyfriend and don’t want to ruin his life if later in life I do realise I am
