Zoloft- I’m just not sure it’s ok

Hello all! This is my first post. I’m so thankful I’ve found this community. I was diagnosed with OCD in 1999. Back when I was first diagnosed, SSRI’s were just coming around and it was a leading treatment for OCD. I am SO THANKFUL for these meds, but for the most part, I’ve gone for almost 21 years unmonitored on Zoloft. Sometimes adjusting my own dose. I know this isn’t the correct way to do things. I have also never tried any other form of therapy along with it. I would love, at some point to get off of Zoloft to just see how I function. I e raised two children and been married 26 years on these meds and the side effects. Maybe in conjunction with other therapy, I could reduce the meds, who knows?Have any of you been on an SSRI for that many years?

I have been on SSRIs for about 20 years. They helped with OCD for a long time until they didn’t. I found that therapy in conjunction with several meds is what allowed me to begin healing.

I've been on Zoloft since 2012, then went off of it sometime in 2022, then went back on it in a much smaller dose sometime in 2023. I strongly suggest NOT going cold turkey as I did in 2022. It didn't affect me right away by being off of it, but after a few months I was a totally different person being off of Zoloft. I recommend seeing a psychiatrist who can monitor you as you take it and gradually wean you down to a lower dose over time if that's really the way you feel led to go. Also, it might be off topic slightly, but I strongly recommend Biblical Counseling as well. It was very helpful to me. It helped me to see the sinful ways that were actually involved in some of my OCD so that I could break out of those obsessions and compulsions. Biblical Counseling is NOT the same as Christian Counseling though, so just keep that in mind. Hope this was helpful. Have a good night! God bless! :)

Hey there i got diagnosed with ocd 4 months ago and I've been on prozac since and it's a life changer for me don't see myself getting off it for another lord knows how long

It totally helped break the cycle of thoughts that were crippling me. I finally felt like I could breathe. And it’s worked for 21 years. I just would like to know if I can function without it. I may not be able to and that’s ok. 21 years is a LONG time. It’s not perfect, I still have some intrusive thoughts and the hamster wheel but I am able to tell myself to stop and redirect my thoughts. What if I can do that without the meds.?🤷🏼‍♀️

I am struggling with a relapse of OCD after years of feeling much better with CBT and Sertraline. I took Sertraline for 7 years and stopped a few months ago, but found my OCD has come back as strong as ever. I have since resumed the medication by titrating back up to what will hopefully be a helpful dosage (under the supervision of my doctor), but I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar issue of relapse after stopping an SSRI. Additionally, did anyone find that resuming the same drug was effective in returning them to their previous baseline? I am new to NOCD and look forward to getting started with my new therapist in March. Thanks for any and all responses in advanced!

OCD Journey and loved ones

Hi Everyone, Really having a difficult day, my OCD has flared up due to concerns about my career and also tension with my partner. My partner asked me if I had a timeline for getting off my antidepressant. I have tried for years and have made it to managing at a low dose on Zoloft. I just feel like I can't give them a timeline because I don't want to get off my meds as there isn't another option I haven't tried when it comes to managing my OCD. Really appreciate and words of wisdom.

Never the right time to start an SSRI

Hi! Thankful for this space where I can talk about things that are way too TMI for other people! I’ve had ocd for about 3.5 years now and have always been terrified to start a medication due to possible side effects. My ocd started as sexual orientation/relationship ocd and I was always so afraid that the medicine was going to take away that attraction from me and leave me feeling like my fears were true. I tried 4 separate times to take a med but never took it longer than I week because I got so anxious of the side effects. I’m getting married next year, and we’re waiting to have sex until we’re married. Mentally, I am unwell and probably should be medicated, but I’m still so scared of the side effects!!! I don’t want my first sexual experiences to be while I’m having a side effect from a drug, we’ve been waiting for 4 years and I really don’t want to throw sexual side effects into the mix of that. Additionally, I’ve heard people talk about how meds numb their emotions, and I want to be feeling happy and excited throughout this season of life! I don’t want meds to suppress me, but I need my anxiety suppressed. I feel stuck
