Religious OCD

Hi guys, I’m a follower of Christ and I definitely have a lot of religious OCD I’m always thinking I’m committing the unforgivable sin, and always thinking that God can never forgive me. And there’s so many people that have their own idea of what they think the unforgivable sin is so it makes me have even more anxiety and honestly I really need help because it’s been a few years now that I’ve been battling this and I just want to live comfortably in my faith

Im a christian too. Im not sure i have ocd, but i have GAD and, from some months now i started do have a faith crisis. Now im thinking if it is, actually, OCD.. I start to think if God exists, if christianity is right or a delusion, if if if. If Jesus history makes sense.. to the point that seeing other religions artefacts trigger my anxiety because they rememeber me I might be on the “wrong” religion and maybe God doesnt exist or does not exist as the christian God I have always believed on (30 years of christianity). I dont know if my terrible GAD sintoms brought me here, if I have OCD or a faith crisis, I just wanted to live in peace..

@F.A Yes, you are right, I should not have fear of thinking. Its kind a fear of losing my faith, of abandoning the God that I love as a consequence of realizing he doesnt or may not exist.

@Lisiane Hi! I wrote called Waging War Against OCD - A Christian Approach to Victory. In it I write about so many fears I had about my relationship with God. Had I confessed to my mom enough as a child? Had I repented of sins enough to know for sure I wasn’t “deceived”, etc. Much of our fears are based on a view of God that is not at all in line with what He is actually like. The fruits of the Spirit (and therefore the character of God) are peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self control, sound mind etc. yes God is holy, but even He tells us that it is His KINDNESS that leads to repentance. Much to say on the unpardonable sin, which I don’t cover in my book. However, one thing that has always helped me with this fear (which I used to have a lot of the time) is that God PROMISES that anyone who comes to Him, he will by no means cast out. So naturally, if you want to Know God, if you seek Him, then you have NOT committed the unpardonable sin. That is for sure. Anyway, I hope this helps! And I think you would like Chapter 9 in my book about God’s grace. Also, check out scrupulosity.com and Jaimie Eckert on YouTube. She has many excellent videos.

fellow christian here! let me tell you, if you are afraid that you’ve committed the unforgivable sin, you definitely have not. according to the bible, the unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the holt spirit. the only people who commit this sin are people who absolutely do not want anything to do with Jesus or the holy spirit. they do not care about forgiveness and their hearts are too hardened to repent. i promise you have not committed the unforgivable sin! i will definitely be praying for you to have peace and comfort in your relationship with Jesus. He loves you and he knows your heart and your heart does not equal your intrusive thoughts🫶 hope this helps

Religious OCD

I am suffering from religious OCD for the past 32 years. When I am practising disregarding my OCD fires back with strong thoughts of until when u r going to disregard. When I say to myself God is with me it fires back with thoughts of what God has done until now. You will never recover. May I ask you what is this. Azhar from India

Religious OCD

Hey guys so I’m new to this. I struggle really bad with religious ocd on top of other themes of ocd i have. But the religious ocd and POCD I have are definitely the hardest two. Today was so hard for me because I was freaking out all day about the eclipse and if it was the end of the world. I grew of in a very strict church and being gay was not acceptable so now I feel I’m morally wrong and unlovable in a sense. I don’t really know how to explain it. Wether it was from my youth pastor outing me on stage in front of all of my friends and hundreds of students, to them praying over me for years on end, before I finally left the church. Yet I still question if my salvation is safe or not. I question if God loves me etc. it gets so bad that I’m convinced everything I do is because I’m possessed by a demon. And I’ll start to vomit. Literally vomit. It sounds wild I know. Wether it’s music my ocd deems demonic or movies or spiritual things such as tarot cards that I enjoy. But my mind will convince me if I use them I will go to hell because that’s what I was taught for so long. I just wish I could get better but I don’t know how and I’m so hopeless.
