Fear of schizophrenia/ bad hearing

hi, I'm currently 7 weeks into Setraline and 2 days into Pragiola. I have anxiety and OCD. First I had harm ocd, which turned into a fear of schizophrenia. I was most afraid of auditory hallucinations and not knowing what I was doing. I have been confirmed several times by a psychiatrist and a therapist that I do not have schizophrenia, yet I have the feeling that I am hearing strange things and am afraid that they are hallucinations. I started to hear worse, but at the same time certain sounds bother me more - car engine, car braking, children's cries and whispers. Sometimes it takes me a while to even recognize what sound I heard. Has anyone also had hearing problems? I had my ear checked today, I have some problem with my ear canal, but it shouldn't cause such changes. Psychiatrist says it's hypersensitivity from anxiety.

I’ve experienced this too. OCD will try and find things that prove it’s real. I think because you’re so afraid of schizophrenia that OCD is trying to find things in your environment that support the reality of this fear. For me, I just started completely ignoring it. I ignore the thoughts and hypersensitivity and it began to subside. Something that helped me was my therapist telling me that it would be nearly impossible for me to get schizophrenia if I have no close relatives with it.

@airotcivd Thank you. I am aware of this, I even had bad vision when I was afraid of visual hallucinations. I managed to break that down - vision. But the fear persists. The psychiatrist told me many times that I don't have schizophrenia and I'm not at risk of severe psychosis (even considering my age - I'm 28), but I'm still afraid. I have ACT therapy and it probably doesn't help me much, it works on an acceptance basis - maybe I will have it and maybe I won't. But I can't accept it, just thinking about that word makes me panic. I try to ignore the hearing, but I don't know how, it seems to me that I can already hear everywhere and everything strange.

I’ve posted this in the past and I can relate. Oftentimes I catch myself going down the OCD rabbit hole or becoming hyper focused on my thoughts, feelings & sensations. When I do, I give myself some compassion and accept the uncertainty (maybe, maybe not). I choose not to engage with the OCD thoughts (what if I become schizophrenic or go crazy?, what if I start to hear voices or see things?, Is the noise from the air conditioner a voice trying to speak to me?, etc.) and instead move on to the things I value (exercising, gardening, music, etc.). In my journey I’ve learned that I cannot control what comes to my mind but I can control whether to respond and not spend time on the “what ifs.” Please know that you are not alone. Please consider getting help from someone specially trained in ocd therapy or reach out to the NOCD Care Team available through this app. Hoping this helps you!!

@Dee C hi, thank you very much for your reply. It also helps to know that you are not alone. Sometimes I manage better, but sometimes really bad. The fear is so great and the head can do such magic. I wouldn't be able to do therapy via the app because my English is very bad, but I'll try to find another therapist.

Ocd/going crazy

Hi about a week ago I found out I have ocd and chronic anxiety! I tried zoloft and it was terrible for me. I also started therapy and I take hydroxyzine but I will discuss further medication with my doctor. My question is I have a huge fear that I'm going crazy, I am crazy, or schizophrenic to the point I'm so hyper aware of my surrounding ill look out the corner of my eye to make sure I'm nit seeing anything ill make sure to double check what I'm hearing and it's so draining! I get really scared and go into a panic and cry 😅 I need some reassurance has anyone felt this way my doctor and therapist explained it to me but I'm still very scared. I feel like one day I'll have a break and I won't be the same! I tried the grounding exercise and breathing it helps temporarily. I also cut out smoking weed and none of my family has this but I feel like I have it or ill develope it even though it's rare!

can ocd make you question your mental health?

i have been diagnosed with OCD & generalized anxiety disorder. for some reason, i’ve been very hyper aware of everything. like the way i talk, the way i see the world, how certain things sound/look/feel, and it’s very distressing. i feel like the hyper awareness makes me afraid of things? like for some reason, my mind attached to cartoons, and i was hyperfocusing on it, and got extremely scared, like scared of the cartoon for no reason? i’ve done this a lot, and i get scared i have psychosis or schizophrenia, or something that makes you afraid of things for no unknown reason. i feel so scared that this is my new normal…. im heartbroken. so many what if’s. did i just ruin my own life?? 💔

Is schizo ocd a thing?

I have been having these fears about developing schizophrenia, it reached a point where i am starting to almost hear things or the smallest sounds and my mind tells me you're schizophrenic, and i feel this weird sensations in my ear as if someone is whispering yet i can barely hear them, the thing is i am not diagnosed yet because i never work with an OCD therapist but i study psychology so i just used what i learnt to give a meaning to my suffering, many themes of this fear have been happening before and this schizophrenia fear is the last one. I want to know what advice you can give me or ways to make my brain calm down a little bit, i also don't have and can't afford a therapist that's why i am here in the first place I also want to know more informations or experiences with this theme if anyone habe experienced it and what helped you with it I remember feeling better for a while but than i collapsed back, but i am hoping to get better soon too or anytime in the future, I don't want reassurance so make sure you be as real as you can, and thanks 🙏🏻
