(TW +18) Uncomfortable dream

I just woke up from a really uncomfortable dream. While it's not the worst dream I've had, I can't stop thinking about how gross it's caused me to feel. I'm not sure if describing the dream in detail would be a compulsion, so I'll refrain from that. But, basically... in the dream (or nightmare), I offered a sexual service to some random man. The thing is, two of my family members were in the room while it happened, and there were certain points in the dream where they implied they had done similar things with this same man. I just feel disgusted and... violated? It's not real, and I understand it's just a dream, but still... :( I woke up feeling tainted.

i've often woken up from sexual dreams like this that made me super uncomfortable. made me feel corrupted and i feel like it only reinforced my feelings of being creepy or dirty so i can relate to how you're feeling. of course, i know now that they were just dreams— a visualization of our subconscious and have nothing to do with character. much like intrusive thoughts, dreams can sometimes be unpleasant and cause distress. im so sorry that it disturbed you like that. you don't deserve it, but i hope it doesn't bother you too much. i found that writing my dreams down sometimes helped it feel like it wasn't in my head and I'd sometimes tell a trusted friend if they were comfortable and they were very validating about it

Thank you so, so much. I really appreciate the advice, and thank you for sharing your experience, too. I'll definitely try writing my dream down, and if it's still bothering me after that, I'll try talking about it with someone I'm comfortable sharing it with. I'm feeling less icky after posting about it, honestly, so that's nice. Thank you again for taking time to reply 🥲🤍

Dreams are just a flood of chemicals going wild in our brains while we sleep. they mean absolutely nothing regardless of how weird or messed up they are. Its normal to feel icky when waking up after an odd dream because they feel like a lived experience but its really nothing to be concerned about.

They really do feel like a lived experience, but I know with time it'll likely feel less personal, and I'll be able to detach from it. Thank you, though. I really appreciate this reminder! ❤️‍🩹

@nae nae - dreams are like a tv show, they are just something we watch from our minds eye but we don't experience them or live them but just like a horror movie , they can still cause real emotions, its just reactions to something seen in the brain tv, nothing more. I wake up feeling so icky from dreams but i just shake them off, it might take half a day if they are super icky but its just dreams, nothing important.

@TexasOCD41 Yeah, I'm definitely feeling a lot better compared to this morning. I took a walk and got some fresh air, which helped a lot! :)

If you have OCD you probably spend every waking hour on your particular obsession. It makes sense that OCD will find it's way into your subconscious, and invade your dreams sometimes. I've had this, and in my dreams , I was into the scary things in the dream. It is very unsettling. Know that it is OCD looking for any way into your psyche. It will fade

Thank you so much for this comment. I really do appreciate it. It definitely can be very unsettling. There was a point in my life a few months ago where I really struggled with going to sleep due to the horrible dreams I'd have. Luckily, I haven't had many recently, except for that one last night, but it still freaked me out a little. I'm doing a little better now, though! A lot less anxious. I'm sorry that it's something you've experienced before as well :( My heart goes out to you. Thank you again!

You are welcome. It is hard sometimes to give someone a little help without reassuring them. I've been through this for 50 years. I think it helps to hand out a little OCD knowledge once in a while.

Isn't that true 😅 It's so hard not to reassure people, especially when they're being really hard on themselves. It's just instinct to want to offer them comfort... But yes, your comment was definitely a helpful reminder. This disorder can affect every aspect of our lives, and I somehow manage to forget that, even though it's completely derailed my life. Thank you again, though! 🤍

False memory or dream

Basically I got a lots of vivid dreams last night and I woke up but went sleep again and was sort of trying to sleep but felt like I was awake not asleep but a vivid scene of a man say you did something with an underage person and I started remember but how can I do this in my sleep . I think I did it but not sure when .

last night I had a dream related to incest, and the feeling when I woke up that I liked it and I replayed it in my brain and it seemed like that every time. like it turns me on and I have a groin. I don't know how to help myself...

Help please

I was trying to sleep in an aunt house and I’m suffering from nightmares or when I take naps or sleep I dream horrible things, and I took a little nap and I was about to start having a nightmare and I woke up. There’s a person that lives here and he’s not even here but I was about to have a dream with him it’s so scary he’s not even my family member or anything. And like it’s a delicate topic. But it’s the feeling that I can’t even sleep sometimes without dreaming this things that are so scary . And the groinal responses are about to kill me ! This is truly destroying my life I don’t know what to do I don’t want to be like this but I’m too tired to stay awake and too tired to sleep
