Hi empathmind. Sorry to hear about the distressing thoughts. Racing heart and feelings of nausea are common symptoms of anxiety. What always helps me with intrusive thoughts is to acknowledge that they are there, but then to try to focus on my breath. Literally saying to myself, "now I am breathing in, now I am breathing out." If you can pull your mind away from the thoughts, hopefully this should help to calm you down. I know the uncertainty of the thoughts is horribly distressing but try to remember that no matter how convinced you feel in the moment, your thoughts/feelings are not prophetic and are not necessarily truth. Hope this helps!!

Can I ask why you feel being a lesbian makes you want to throw up?

i have nothing against lesbians, im not homophobic. it’s just an ocd theme that convinces you that your sexuality has changed. it just feels like an identity crisis x10000.

Because she has hocd. Is that not obvious?

Maybe she doesn’t want to be lesbian so the thought of it makes her sick. Come on dude you have “ OCD “ and you’re on the app but yet you can’t understand the key details of HOCD?

If you don't have hocd you probably shouldn't comment on posts like this.

@empathmind It’s fine I wouldn’t want you to get triggered because I’ve been triggered by comments like this and it’s the worse

@AG._. Markito's I assume. First off I want to say that the statement he made itself isn't wrong. I think it's kind of PC though considering a sexuality doesn't make someone "cool" or not. There are really cool, great lesbians, and I'm sure there are really bad people who are lesbians too. That's just it they're people and their sexual orientation is just one part of them. I have a gay brother who finds it really offensive when people kiss up to him for being gay because he says there's way more to him than who he prefers to sleep with. Sometimes I wonder if some people post comments to be inflammatory, not to be helpful. Either he's completely unaware of what HOCD entails or he was fishing for a certain type of response. She never said it was a bad thing to be a lesbian, she said it wasn't right for her specifically.

Sorry if my comment came across in a bad way, but you should accept the odea of manybe becoming gay, bi or whatever, reassurance will not help in any way, i have had the gay theme and have overcome it thru acceptance....

Generally you're right, but this really isn't necessarily when someone is already at a really high stress level. This is just going to overwhelm them. Acceptance and ERP should start with a little bit of stress, but not THE MOST STRESSFUL THING from the get go. Thank you. Please stop.

@hateocd123 What’s reassurance and why is it bad?

@leilaa Reassurance Seeking is when you look for people to reassure you that their obsessional fears aren't true. It gives momentary relief, but continues the OCD cycle because when we're anxious we feel that we have to rely on people giving us reassurance which is a compulsion. For some reason reassurance works for people without OCD, but because of our faulty wiring and sticky intrusive thoughts it doesn't for us. The thought usually will come back stronger after reassurance.
