If so, can you tell me what the process was like? Did you have to request for a diagnostic assessment, or will they give you one if you don’t already have a diagnosis? And does it happen during that 1 hour appointment or what? Please tell me! Thank you.
I just had my first session yesterday, have never been diagnosed with OCD previously and the therapist I saw gave the assessment and diagnosed me during the meeting. We discussed my general issues at first, past mental health history, then did assessments.
@Anonymous Oh okay, sorry if this is a dumb question but is this therapist that you talked with considered an ocd specialist and are they licensed to give diagnosis? Second can you tell me a bit about how the assessment was, did they ask you a bunch of questions and/or explain things about ocd to you? And were you allowed to ask questions about ocd? Lastly, was it necessary for your therapist to know what theme you’re experiencing ?
@serenity_1 Not a dumb question at all. Yes she was(like I believe all of them on this platform are) a specialist in OCD and after administering the assessment, stated that I met the qualifiers for OCD. Which I am assuming is as good as/the same as a diagnosis. She did ask a lot of questions and I took some assessments afterwards as well. You will need discuss your triggers, what helps you, any rituals or anything like that and the themes you tend to focus on. She explained a lot, I was able to talk and ask questions.

@serenity_1 I’m not sure on that front. Mine is covered by my insurance. However, they can’t force you to continue to go to sessions. So 🤷🏻♀️
@Anonymous Ohh alright. One more thing, um, what if they misdiagnose me just to get an extra customer, or maybe they’re not trained enough? Sorry not trying to trigger you or something. Maybe these are ocd thoughts

I was already diagnosed with OCD when I started therapy through NOCD, but I was diagnosed with Excoriation Disorder by my NOCD therapist. You'll do assessments for the first session or two, and your therapist can give diagnoses after you complete them. They're done through the NOCD app, partially in session and partially as homework. Hope this helps!

@serenity_1 Every NOCD therapist specializes in OCD treatment through ERP. Most of them are clinical social workers, which qualifies them to give diagnoses, including non-OCD diagnoses.
@sophea Hey, sorry but by any chance did your NOCD therapist also diagnose you with OCD as well again? Or did you already tell them about your previous diagnosis so they didn’t feel the need to diagnose you again?
Im wanting to set up an appt with a therapist but I am on the borderline. I’ve seen some bad Google reviews of people saying the therapists are required to do “small talk” but don’t get into the route of the issue right away. Is this normal? I just want help with my Pure OCD as soon as possible without wasting too much time on unnecessary things and get myself to feeling better.
I had my second session with a therapist and they told me they don’t think I have OCD. They think that I have just intrusive thoughts. They also said they don’t do diagnosis. I also noticed they did not ask me questions about my different themes.This has made me so confused. Even though I had a terrible fear that a therapist will tell that I don’t have it, (which is the main reason why I had not gone to one) I did suspect I had it because I identify with many of the symptoms. On the website it says that they treat it but I don’t think they are like a specialist. On the first session they described OCD mainly as needing to have things symmetrical and fear of contamination. I have a feeling that they don’t know much about it. I also didn’t mentioned all the themes I think I have because I’m scared to be misunderstood. I am not sure what to do. I can’t afford seeing an OCD therapist at NOCD. Can anyone give an insight, has something similar happened to you? Thank you!
hi! how did you guys get your ocd diagnosis? what was that process like? did it take a while? do some of you not have a diagnosis but just know you have ocd?
