Moral OCD, I think...

I've been watching a lot of mainly political videos recently. It started as trying to get a better understanding of everything going on in the world and how we got here in the first place, but one of the last videos I came across was about certain hateful groups of people that are becoming more active in recent years due to varying factors. The whole video made me so uncomfortable. Rightfully so, I think, even if it was informative. But now I can't stop thinking about how scary it is that humans can be sort of indoctrinated into such hateful mindsets and views... These issues have existed for a long time in the US, but recently, I've noticed that a lot of people are being more vocal about certain discriminatory views they hold and things. Maybe I'm overloading myself with too much information. I don't know. I'm just feeling really unsettled after that video. I can't imagine ever becoming someone like that, but it scares me to think about :(

Hi, I know we haven’t really spoken in a while. I just wanted to say that taking a break from social media and the news can be really helpful. You can get super stressed without even realizing it. I’ve seen videos that I wouldn’t even consider that heavy, and yet I haven’t been able to sleep all week. All I do is dream about everything that’s going on right now. I literally dream that I have so much responsibility because I know about these situations. In my waking hours, I feel fine, and I don’t even realize I’m stressed unless I’m having these stressed-out dreams. My point is, taking a break can really help. Even things online that were uncomfortable at first start to feel less heavy after a while. Give it time. Give yourself a break too. Relax, play some games, or watch a movie. Watching a romcom always makes me feel better when I’m spiraling about how scary the world is. It brings some lightness back. Life and the world can be really dark, but there are also light aspects we need in order to keep going. A lot of what’s happened recently is just a scary time, and seeing how NOCD is on top of sending emails and posting videos reminds me how serious things feel. You’re okay. Even if you feel overwhelmed, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. I know it can trigger me too, especially with moral OCD stuff about empathy and responsibility. Try to get your mind off of it as much as you can. Everyone needs a break, even people without OCD. We’re not meant to take in so much bad news. Taking a step back doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you someone who’s overwhelmed and needs space. You deserve to relax, see the good in the world, and sometimes that means giving yourself a break from all the bad. It’s not selfish to look after your mental health 💗

It is scary dear one. That is true. But remember the first step is take care of yourself and not despair. The first thing these people want to do is throw us into chaos and fear. They are kinda like OCD! We must not give in to them. Take a break, drink water, regulate your nervous system, and live to fight another day!

It's really important to talk about this right now, so I'm glad you are. I think the more events like this happen, the more we're expected to become desensitized. It doesn't get easier. It is so important to take breaks, plan some things that are for you. Use your hands, watch a show you haven't seen in a while, color! It can be scary to lean into the learning stuff, especially when it comes to politics but I find it very helpful to learn more about what aligns with my beliefs. What do you/ don't you agree with? There is a better world out there, but we have to do some work to make that a reality for ourselves and figure out how to somehow make right all the damage it's done.

I feel gross

I shouldn’t have done this (trigger trigger trigger!!) So about a month ago..maybe I watched this video (as a compulsion to prove to myself) The video was called “interview with a p3d0” And basically it was what it says, I watched or more like listened to half of it…after I was disgusted by the person, but now all I can think of is every little thing I do, I feel as if tho I’m monitoring every thought/moment and feeling I have it’s torturous and I hate it..I feel disgusting, the person in the video has empathy and sympathy and had those feelings yk, I can’t explain it you’d have to watch the video yourself but please don’t it will ruin your journey…I feel more hopeless then before, my OCD is telling me so many things trying to convince me things that Ik aren’t true, I’m just really scared I don’t want to be that person I want to be a good cousin and person to my family, I’m sick of my head and myself, I’m so tired that sometimes I can’t even think straight, my head is always in pain and idek how to help myself..compulsions have been becoming more and more exhausting… I need advice or even someone to relate to, I understand I shouldn’t have done what I did but idk how to forget it.. I had made this post already but when someone replied I couldn’t see it for some reason so I’m uploading it again

ocd + interests + online discussions

i’ve been having this theme pop up recently where if I see people either criticize or be a hater and spread misinformation or seeing old controversies about my current interests/hyper-fixations i find myself having a crazy anxiety attack about if it’s “morally okay” to be interested in my interests anymore. i feel really singled out and like im doing something wrong because im watching a youtuber or listening to a specific musical group. in all of these specific situations the people involved have talked about the situations and have changed accordingly but seeing it makes me feel like i shouldn’t be allowed to like my favorite things. to be clear none of these things are dramatically evil or bad. it’s either misinformation/uneducated people influencing someone opinion and then they learn and change. it just makes me feel like im not allowed to like my favorite things anymore because of people criticizing it??? if that makes sense??? also this is a little off topic but also not really because i’m 99.99% sure im autistic because of MANY things but with this specifically i have very strong interests and i feel very deep feelings about them and any and all criticism or hateful comments towards my favorite things trigger me deeply and make my ocd act up and make me feel uncomfortable and uncertain and anxious and it causes physical discomfort to me. i really don’t know how to calm myself down about this specific theme it’s brand new and makes me feel really anxious. not trying to look for reassurance but does anyone else understand what i mean??? does anyone have any advice on how to not give into the negative comments??? any suggestions on how to ease this specific anxiety???

Political OCD

Sometimes i think everyone on the right is evil. I ask myself “how can i love people with values different than mine?” I struggle accepting the fact my parents political beliefs are different than mine. I love them so much but it baffles me. We have talked and they say its fine to have different opinions but i can’t help but wonder if i’m doing something wrong by having my beliefs. And then with all the economic chaos today in the US, I can’t help but think that I was right about everything and I just feel like it is my fault that the world is in turmoil. Idk. I think i wish i could stop thinking about it but ever since the election cycle began around a year ago it has been dominating my life. I question myself, i question others, i appear very extremist and rigid and i don’t like it. I want my OCD to go away. Its apparently OCD but it feels so real right now. Can anyone relate? What are yalls thoughts on this subtype?
