Are you in the USA? I’m in the UK and 200mg is the maximum. How do you find 250mg works for you?

@OCDMum87 I’m in the us. I m take two fifty and honestly sertraline on it’s own wasn’t enough for me so I added an antipsychotic and that really seemed to do the trick.

@Nikki1809 What are examples of antipsychotics and are they effective on intrusive thoughts? Do they have more side effects?

@OCDMum87 Abilify is what I take. It seems to be very helpful for me in reducing the irrational anxiety that goes with intrusive thoughts and makes me more able to do erp. I’m a lot calmer now that I’m on it. The only real side effect I have from it is lowered sex drive but I’m honestly okay with that, I don’t do that anyway and the benefits outweigh it.

@Nikki1809 I get lowered sex drive with sertraline aswel and it makes me feel spaced out alot

@b2192 Yeah it’s hard for me to tell what the effects of sertraline are on me because I’ve been on antidepressants my whole life.

@Nikki1809 Yeah I'm the same, but I came off them for a couple weeks and the brain fog went away so I noticed it was the tablets that caused it. Just felt the side effects were worth having to feel better mentally

@b2192 Yeah. Idk I just get worse when I’m off my medications. I’m always a little foggy but I think that’s my autism not the medications.

I increased from 100mg to 150mg I felt more in control but the thoughts are still there Do you get any weird sensations in your head or blink allot ?

I have a constant consciousness of my mouth but I think that’s more somatic OCD. Not sure I know where OCD ends and everything else begins anymore!

I have weird headaches that show up when intrusive thoughts come up or I spike now

Yeah I feel the same, like I wonder if everything I'm feeling is coming from OCD or wether its symptoms of the tablets. I'm sick of it all at the minute

Yeah but not as much as I’d like which is why I’m increasing. I’m reluctant to change medication as generally I tolerate sertraline well and don’t want to end up on something with greater side effects.

Yeah I do have therapy and it has definitely helped but I still feel I have a long way to go. But I guess OCD is a lifelong battle in reality! If only there was a cure hey!

Yeah do you do therapy on here ? I havent recieved therapy yet so not really sure of the best route, I'm on a waiting list through talking changes.

No I have it locally. I’m in the UK so I don’t think can have therapy on here. But my therapy is now via zoom due to the current lockdown. Hope you get therapy soon - it definitely does help!

Of course not. I have been fortunate enough to go private locally - I looked on the BABCP website to make sure they were an accredited CBT therapist.

Thankyou, so CBT works I thought I would have to go fofor like ERP or does CBT specialise in that ?

Sorry yeah it would need to be a CBT therapist that treats OCD with ERP but they should have their specialisms detailed on there.
