the key to get trough ocd is accepting the uncertainity of things. past is only in our memories and the future are just projections. what we only have is the present. may sound cliché but it is the truth. i've taken control over ocd so im doing pretty well right now. doing my things normally and not overthinking! i know how hard can ocd get sometimes but a reminder to yourself its that you are a strong person. all the thing you've been trough to get to this moment. You are a wonderful human being. never doubt that.

@Estrid Hi when I mean natural I basically mean no meds. I’m pretty sure I have OCD like 99 percent sure because all the symptoms I have match intrusive thoughts/ OCD. Unfortunately for me Harm OCD has been the worst for me and torturing. I can’t afford a therapist atm because of various reasons. Right now I am reading a book “ Overcoming Unwanted intrusive thoughts” a CBT guide book and I’m practicing to leave the thoughts in my head no matter how distressing ... I’m also taking Vitamin B and magnesium and even taking Lavendar Oil because I heard it relaxes the anxiety. Hope this answers your question and any of your advice and tips will be appreciated ? On things I’m doing right or wrong! Will also try to start exercising :( This is what I mean by Natural Route :((

Leaving the thoughts and being around Knives and any other objects that scares me is a way for ERP for me... I had this almost 1 1/2 year ago but it went away randomly after 1 year of torture and during when I got better the thoughts would randomly pop up on my head but it would not bother me at all I thought I was cured... 8 months later it suddenly came back I have no clue why and worse than ever !! Ugh ?? sorry it’s long but just wanted to give u a clear idea of my situation

I get you. So sorry that you cant afford a therapist. Great that you work on recovery on your own!! Of course it sucks when symptoms return?, I have had that experience too. The most important thing is to not give up hope, you will be stronger if you do the best you can. You can work on your natural route and maybe make a decision like "if I'm still in a very bad state in lets say 6 months, then I will try medication", just a thought. Another thing is that when you work on exposures, every attempt to lower the anxiety is a compulsion. Recovery is about learning to sit with the anxiety and do nothing to remove it. Wishing you the best. Never give up! And listen to Patrick McGrath on the you tube NOCD, he is grate!!

I get you, I was hesitant when dr talked about medication. But now I have never regret taking them for 7 years. Its worth a try. Why make it harder than it has to be?

Nobody can give you tips that it never comes back. You have to learn about how OCD works and develope tools to manage the disorder.

i went to therapy and they didnt gave me any meds. it was all about talking with each other and understanding how anxiety works in your brain and how you can change it

@estrid yes I know but it’s more of a personal thing because medication and SSRIS did not turn out well for my grandpa and it haunts me and I don’t wanna be dependent on them

Yes, I understand. But although you have this story abd experience, one day you have to choose a way to move forward, and so many of us have to take medication. Nobody likes it in the beginning I think. No one wants to be on medication for the rest of the life. But what if it helps you? What if? If you have diabetes you have to take insulin, there us no choice, I dont think they "like it." Dont let fear decide your choices when it comes to treatment.
