Hi there. I suffer with Harm OCD on a daily basis. I just started Prozac about 3 weeks ago. Although it takes about 6-8 weeks to fully start working, one of the first things that I noticed was my inner dialogue disappeared. I still have unwanted intrusive thoughts, but without the dialogue, it makes it a bit easier to manage. I also started therapy, so I’m hoping these two things can work together to eliminate them to the most of its ability. I wish you well and if you need to talk, I’m here.

What do you mean exactly by your inner dialog dissappeard? Have you had any negative side effects from Prozac?

@kls323 When my OCD first hit me very hard, I developed an inner dialogue that went along with my thoughts. Basically, I would feed into them by speaking to myself.. which really scared me and made my lose myself even more. The only negative side effect I’ve had so far with Prozac is fatigue during the day.

@rosulatoki Thats great its working for you. I would take fatigue over ocd any day.

@kls323 My intrusive thoughts are still here — but I’m hoping I can overcome them. Are you doing ok?

@rosulatoki I'm sure you can. I heard when taking meds the thoughts will be there but its easier to let them go. Especially if your doing therapy, that will help. I'm doing ok. Some days great but than some days each lol. Its always hit or miss thats why I'm always debating meds.

@kls323 I was also afraid to take meds but my intrusive thoughts got so bad, I thought I might as well give it a shot. I wouldn’t know if it worked if I didn’t try!

@rosulatoki So true. What did you feel like the first few weeks? Did it outweigh the good of it?

@kls323 First few weeks I was very tired.. a little irritable, and I lost my appetite. Also had a few headaches.. but nothing too crazy. My psychiatrist wants to keep me on it for another month so I am just going to ride it out.

@rosulatoki Thats good. I would be fine if I knew my symptoms were just physical but I've heard of many have mental side effects. I'm happy its working for you

@kls323 Do you suffer with harm ocd? Just curious. And I know, and can understand your concern because that was mine too, but our minds are very powerful.

@rosulatoki Yes and that what makes it scary. I feel I always have anxiety about everything but harm ocd comes sometimes. but I obsess over everything so I'm not sure what that is. What do you have?

I used to be extremely terrible with my OCD. I suffered from multiple different types of intrusive thoughts. It used to be so bad that it was difficult to leave my room to use the restroom. I started medication and over the years I have become a completely different person. I still have hard days. But I’m able to deal with it and push forward. You can do this. We were built to overcome. ❤️

Thats great! What meds are you taking? Was it tough when you started it?

@kls323 I take Citalopram. I didn’t want to be on medication at all but it became a necessity. It was really tough went I started taking them because I thought it was going to be an instant fix. It took a long time for it to work with my body.

@Gansey Thats exactly why I've been so scared to take anything. I heard so many bad things of starting some of the mess. But at least you are doing good now.

@kls323 I completely understand that. It’s just important to know that even when you start medication, it’s still going to take work to get better.
