You can and should do erp. ERP will bring on false feelings and that’s usually the point: to purposely trigger our intrusive thoughts/feelings/urges and practice dealing with them without compulsions. If you’re waiting for false feelings to go away before you start erp, that’s like saying you’re waiting for your ocd to go away before you start erp. And what would be the point then? You wouldn’t need it. Start erp! Ideally with an ocd specialist who can help you learn what to do when these feelings come up.

The only issue is I don’t know what my compulsions are. I understand what your saying though. For my I don’t have the energy for erp as I’m extremely drained

@sagittarius93 We have to do ERP, and not wait for when we feel better to do so. That’s like saying I’m not going to the gym until I’m already in shape. How does one get healthy without exercise. How does one recover without practicing ERP.

@NOCD Advocate - Carl Cornett Also I’ve been advised off my therapist that I address the burnout out first because of my Heath I’ve found out I’ve got too high amount of red blood cells and this is getting reviews in 3 weeks time so rule out any other health problems

@sagittarius93 It’s likely your burnout is mostly due to suffering from untreated ocd. While you may not feel ready for it, most people who start erp never are. They do it because it’s the only option. If there was an easier treatment, we’d do it. But there isn’t. Your challenge will be to have these false feelings and then say “you know what, I don’t need to understand exactly why this is happening or how with any more certainty than I have already.” And to let that be your answer each and every time your brain tells you to go searching for an answer.

I understand I have access to therapy but only done one session and she recommends treating burnout will help with therapy
