I’m sure everyone on this app thinks about what you said. We can get through this together and we are all here for you. It’s hard living with a disorder that makes you doubt everything about yourself and makes you believe that your thoughts are real but in reality they are not. Things will get better soon.

Thanks I haven’t got diagnosed yet but I’ve done tests and majority say I have severe ocd. Ik that I didn’t need a test to prove it I just know and have been suffering for 7 years thanks for the positivity

@louisa davoil Your welcome. You can get diagnosed by a psychologist or a doctor. Once you get diagnosed then you can start doing erp to help break the ocd cycle.

Yeah I mean I want to see a therapist but I’m afraid of telling my parents. I hinted about something similar to ocd years ago to my mum but I’m scared if I tell them I’ll be a berdan

It took me a while to tell my mum about my ocd as I was embarrassed and this year I had a breakdown and said that I can’t deal with this anymore and decided to get help. She knew about one compulsion I did but not the rest of them. Opening up to your parents may seem hard but it will be worth it in the end as they will be able to support you through this journey to recovery. My mum is still there for me during this journey. Your parents won’t think that you are a burden as you are suffering from a mental health condition, honestly you might be surprised how supportive they will be.

@hanajade Ik they will be supportive if I ever did cause that’s just the people they r. I just don’t wanna be judged by my siblings especially. I’m very ashamed and I wish my life was different. I should of told them all about this earlier when I started getting symptoms in 2013. I was so young back then it was horrible and still horrible now.

So erp is basically sitting with your thoughts and anxiety and not do any compulsions. This is the only way to break the ocd cycle.

@hanajade So thats it it sounds feasible but just the thought of doing it sucks. What do professional ERP sessions include?

@12345678Aa You would build a heirarchy with your psychologist which you write your compulsions down and you try to confront your fears by doing the one that causes you least anxiety and then you keep going up the ladder until you get to the one which causes a high anxiety. So you would practice some of these with your psychologist and you will need to do it at home. Hope this makes sense.

It is probably easier doing it with a psychologist that way you do it during your sessions and you also need to do it at home.

@hanajade My sister sees a phychologist and I use to I just don’t wanna worry my parents since they have done so much for me in the past when I was sick as a child and following me up to different appointments growing up.

@louisa davoil Just tell your parents that you are struggling with your ocd and say that you need help to recover from ocd. They will understand.

@hanajade I don’t know if it will be that easy and if they will treat me differently. I’ve been afraid for years cause Ik it’s so bad and I can’t even properly explain it. Just everything triggers and I don’t know if they will properly understand.

@louisa davoil Try and show them websites about ocd and how it affects you on a daily basis. It is so important to get help for ocd as it can get worse overtime and can be much harder to break the cycle.

@hanajade But I feel the conversation will be awkward and stress them. I don’t wanna stress and worry them about it. Ik it’s not healthy to keep this in and better to let it out especially to people who know u. Idk

@hanajade Yeah this does. This app has been a huge help reaching out to others with the same and similar struggles as me. I am a person who shows my emotions or whatever is bugging me. This just seems too much the only person I will speak to is a physiologist or any other mental health professional but maybe one day
