So to have OCD, you need an obsession and a compulsion. Obsession - something you don’t want to be true, a BIG fear which causes a truckload of anxiety. Compulsion - something you do to reduce the anxiety and reinforces the idea that you are not your greatest fear. It also must impact your life negatively and decrease your daily life satisfaction. Hopefully these things help you figure out, you can also search “DSM OCD diagnosing requirements” and it’ll show you the official criteria.

Yeah when the thoughts first got really loud I think I like shut down for two months, I couldn’t sleep and when I did I kept being woken up in the middle of the night with really bad anxiety. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up and the last thing I thought of when I went to bed. I did ‘am I gay’ quizzes for hours on end and I pretty much avoided all of my friends. It felt like I had just lost a big chunk of my identity that I was really confident in before. Thank you for recommending the DSM criteria! I’m going to check that out.

Took this two weeks ago and it came back as showing symptoms ... I think I had like 80% of the options ticked off

@aurokoi Sounds pretty OCD to me! Obviously I’m not a therapist. But I have ocd and I recognize plenty of symptoms in what you wrote and that quiz is a very accurate portrayal of common symptoms.

@pureolife Thank you!! I have an appointment with a therapist coming up but I just am worried I’m going to be wasting our time bc I’m trying to fake something in order to avoid confronting this. Some days it feels a little better and other days it’s like everything in me is just in pain lol, which confused me even more. Anyways, thank you for your input!!!

@aurokoi That is a perfectly normal and verrrrry common fear when starting treatment. This is my favorite article on it: https://ocdla.com/doubt-denial-ocd-5342
