She can use this app to make a loop tape, if you can get her to say it once the loop tape can play it over again for her. So she'll hear her voice but she isn't actually literally repeating it. Or maybe have her start off with writing it in a piece of paper over and over again. If saying it is too hard for her. Is she in therapy?

expose her to it by having her say it out loud and trying not to do any compulsions after and just breathing and sitting with the anxiety

She says she either believe she is 100 percent gay or 100 percent hetero. Nothing in between. She said based on all her thoughts and dreams and inappropriate thoughts when she looks at girls she has believed she is gay. But when I tell her to accept it - she doesn’t want to. It’s like a vicious cycle. She also mentioned she wants the thoughts to go away.

She has to be able to accept the uncertainty not the actual thought. At the end of the day she has to want to do the work. Have you reached out to speak to a therapist about how you can help her in the meantime? I know it’s hard to watch her suffer but the best way that you can help her is by not reassuring her of anything, I wonder if you would be able to reach out to a therapist in NOCD to get some other helpful tips on helping her?

I’m so happy that you are supportive in trying to help her, that’s awesome. If she can say that she’s either one or the other, record her stating that fact and accepting the uncertainty of knowing either way or having to solve it right now. Play this over and over for her, even if she wants to listen with EarPods. It’s scary, it’ll be hard at first and will cause discomfort but it’s worth it I promise. I’m a 40 yo that thought I had it all figured out until my mind decided to “protect” me from what I loved the most. I hope this helps

Thank you- I tried to get her to say it last. Out loud and she Said I can’t do that mom because once I do that and say I’m gay out loud my brain will make it official. And she was almost in tears. Did you also have HOCD

@rachel1219 I have SOOCD ROCD and POCD. Having Covid triggered it I believe, I’ve always had some thoughts and feelings but nothing to make me avoid life and isolate myself from anything and everything I loved

I’m triggered by my husband, my children and other factors that I encounter every day so I had no choice but to try to get the appropriate help and I constantly work on this all day. This thing tries to ruin all of my peace and joy. I’m claiming my life back and I’m glad I found this forum to share with and support each other

Wow that’s commendable. How old were you when it first got triggered and what triggered it

I’m 40 now, I was 39 when this thing TKO’d btw thank you, I had to make a decision either I try to get better or I leave everything that defines me alone. I got really sick in the end of February and beginning of March went to the hospital, had every symptom that was listed, quarantined for almost a month because I was determined not to spread this around my house hold

@NOCD Advocate - Danielle The first incident was a sudden panic attack that I thought was a heart attack or stroke, then the difficulty to swallow( at least my mind told me it was hard), lost 50+ lbs because the doctor I had told me I was allergic to everything so I completely ate nothing but broths and drank water. Then one day I had a nightmare of doing something inappropriate with a family member, called them to find out if I had when I was younger, moved on to seeing images of my children being violated and harmed, my husband and I weren’t getting along very well but ROCD popped up and told me that he didn’t love me anymore then SOOCD came through and said well since you resent him then you’re into women

She has to be ready to do the work, you can’t help her until she’s ready. My therapist had me watch a video on YouTube with masculine women over and over again, I wrote the words gay, homosexual and lesbian again and again while saying it aloud. I made a loop tape of a story involving what would happen if my obsession was true

When she wakes up maybe you can give her a list of things that she can do and have her pick which one maybe the easiest to do first, have you looked at the tools for ERP on this app? Also the SOS button with Dr McGrath works wonders
