I had exactly the same thing in the beginning. The fear of thinking you don't have OCD and thinking all your thoughts are real is common in a lot of people with ocd. Thats a obsession itself. What kind of therapist are you seeing? And for how long? It could take a while to see a change. They recently said that I had Autisme spectrum disorder, and that is the cause of things taking longer.

Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your experience! :) I’m currently seeing a therapist who does CBT and EMDR, I saw her for 12 weeks a few years ago when all this first started getting really bad for me, but I’ve started seeing her again more recently as I’ve been getting a lot worse again and it’s been three weeks (I have an hour a week with her). I guess I get worried also that because recovery isn’t instant and because I’ve had the same theme for so many years, that the thoughts must be true and that it isn’t ocd.

Definitely see an erp therapist

@charissepisces2021 You just gotta take the risk. Its either you go see an erp therapist and all your thoughts are true and then you deal with that, or they aren't true and you can actually get better for real

@charissepisces2021 Thank you for your help! I’ll look into it, would do it on here but not sure how it works in the Uk. Also thank you for not giving me reassurance, it always scares me so much when someone says “it may be true” but I guess it’s better in the long run?

I saw a therapist that isn’t an OCD specialist and she made all of my symptoms worse

I’m so sorry that happened to you! Are you feeling any better now? My therapist does help me a little bit, she says a lot of the right things and does try to not reassure me, however we never do erp so don’t know how effective it will be.

@MelodyOCD At least she’s not giving reassurance because that’s what mine did for somethings! I have a nocd therapist now that’s amazing and very helpful

@Justmesadly She does give me a little bit sometimes but she does try not to i think. And that’s amazing, I’m so glad it’s helping you! May I ask if it was scary for you at all to start erp? I’m thinking of doing the 15 min consultation but I’m so scared

@Justmesadly Oh gosh, I just had the 15 min consultation and just wondering if I can afford it and if it is worth it. I want this to all go away so badly but I’m so so scared and worried it won’t help

@MelodyOCD You don’t know until you try that’s what I keep telling myself! I haven’t done much erp yet so I can’t tell you if it worked for me but I try to do some myself and that’s helped a little so far
